I’ve been having some interesting results with this. It seems to have been changed in some way, at least. When it was first introduced, the effect would last for 15 seconds, fully. Now, when testing it not taking any damage, it first counts down from 5 seconds, and then when that timer is done, it restarts from 10 seconds. Not sure what the point of that is.
Also, I have seen my shield effect ending before it should, sometimes it just dissapears with 3 seconds of the first timer to go and I have approx 30% energy left. This always happens when I am taking fire, but my other modules are not nullified, so I don’t think its an enemy effect.
Overall, I rarely use it except as a last resort, and I am usually already dead. It buys a couple seconds time, but as others have mentioned, it leaves you dead in the water when the shield runs out. You cant afterburn to escape, you cant use modules to help you. Not to mention, that it seems pretty weird that they would create such a simple and self-destructive mechanic on what would be the “commanders” of their fleets.

I’ll keep a look out for this one, hadn’t noticed the split timer before.
I might have an explanation for the “30% cap remaining” effect you’re seeing. If you are using “damage to cap” (or D2C) skills or modules, you may see this effect. It could be caused by a large amount of incoming damage which is greater than the amount of cap you have left. Therefore the damage will knock out the shield and some will bleed through to the ship. At this point you are actually taking damage so your D2C mechanics will kick in and return a bunch of capacitor. Since this all happens instantaneously, it would look like you had cap left, take a hit, shield goes off, and cap remains.
Has anyone found out whether or not diffusion shield receives the same resistances as your normal shield or not?
Also, the fact that it completely shuts off damage → energy transfers, is utterly idiotic. It should, at the most, only reduce it by 50% or somewhere close to that. At full power, of course, it’d be broken, but don’t completely get rid of it.

0 resistance to everything.
Do the math. You can become invulnerable with just the implant. It would be utterly idiotic to allow damage > energy conversion as you could have an invulnerable ship for 15/30 seconds.
I’ve been asked about the implant and diffusion shield just a few days ago, so sadly it’s still a very relevant thread. In a way, it’s hilarious that people do not realize that if implant worked, they’d be invulnerable for the duration of the shield.
