Developer blog from May 15th: Ships and modules

frigs come in like a wrecking ball

we friggin need to kill them all

So let’s sum up this.

  • Stix is too tanky it should be nerfed.

  • Cov ops are too strong (the proof is that whit skill and time a single cov ops can destroy a stix which is the strongest ship in t3), they shouldn’t be buffed.

  • Frigball spam is a problem.

  • Frigs are too weaks compared to ceptors.

I’m getting mixed feelings from this. A bit confusing no?

-Styx is too tanky and needs a slight nerf to overall hull volume.

-Covert Ops are just fine, now that their Plasma Arc was nerfed slightly. ECMs are still a problem.

-Frigballs? How bout those Recon balls I see in beacon capture matches? You know, the ones where they microwarp from beacon to beacon and hardly even dogfight? Frigballs have their place in Team Battles, but that slight nerf to the Styx would help shrink their effectiveness.

-The only Frigs that are too weak against Interceptors are the Guard class. And that is primarily due to the weird explosive damage mechanics that make Frigs take waaaaaay more flak damage than the Interceptor orbiting them. Other frigate classes are just fine and don’t need more effectiveness against interceptors.

-Jericho LRFs could even use a slight buff to their shield volume, and a minor damage increase on their torpedo launcher. (Exclude Mauler, since it’s already got hull and shield buffs).

Yeah, I don’t see any contradictions. Did you?

Hacking guard pulsar hmmmm… that could help

If you can dodge a torp, you can dodge a frigball.

Styxes are OP in 1 v 1 battles, most of the time. They are much less useful in 2-1 and totally dead in 3-1 (unless you’re REALLY good, but even then…). I think the problem, as Nuke said, is that they are not focused enough. Guaranteed that even if a team of 4 focuses one, it is done for. Just always go for the engine first, and you will do better overall.

imagine if you hacked a guided torp to send it back to where it came from…

Oh man that would be crazy.

Turn radius is too large  It is possible to Torp yourself up the but though

it goes in reverse.

It’s also possible to torp yourself in the face if you send it through the warpgate just before you go.

Firstly we’d like to thank everyone for the feedback!

Concerning the Recon module, I don’t understand how it won’t be obvious to any pilot with the display that shows a ship’s hull and shield strength? Won’t people just be able to compare the two and see it? Obviously in the heat of battle it may well be missed but I would have thought people’d settle into spotting it pretty quickly. I may be missing something though - the idea does sound fun, I hope it works out and is nicely balanced.

What display do you meen, skiffle?

I really hope these new ships are credit ships, not Premium.

The new ships won’t be premium.)

The problem is that in case the holograms has less HP (hull and shield strength) then you will be able to see the difference between the holos and the main ship, just looking at the HP bars (if you play with the “true HP bar” option)

In case the holograms have like -30 resistences to everything or something like that then there won’t be a problem.

I think holograms are just 3d image of ship without any hp/shield actually & everything could pass through it. same it could have fake hp/shield bar but only in image.

I was thinking in something like the Starcraft illusions. You see them, they have the same HP, Shields, and even upgrades than the original ship, but they receive double damage, and of course they don’t do any damage. They will disappear if you use any special ability on them.

So here I suppose they will have same health, but maybe stock resistences, so they will receive more damage. If they don’t have the same health, it will be easy to tell who will be the real one.

But really I think that the main use of this is to mess with the enemy team at long range, making them think you have more ships, or droping the holos and cloaking for escape.

holos 'll fly like bots… so LRFs will notice which one is a fake

They will fly like…drones! Oh boy all those people complaining about drones will love this!

Drones are bad because they deal ridiculous damage over time and don’t require any skill. Holograms will (hopefully) not deal any damage at all, so I’m not too sure about that.

he meant they would fly like drones but deal no damage. Basically really annoying decoys.

No, he clearly didn’t.

perfect for my plan’s :006j:

hokay, giving the holos similar damage and effect as a torpedo…

Yea, I don’t like it…

These things actually do a crudton of damage on self-destruct, and they explode like a torpedo!

You could kill enemy ships with these things! (And I have myself, on a few occasions in invasion).

Please modify the description to notify that the self-destruct does damage… and has a blast radius… and it deals EM(?) damage…

No, he clearly didn’t.

I was referencing the fact that there was another set of “drones” module. I didn’t say anything about damage as I assumed they would do none.

They actually fly better than drones or bots, kind of like a hybrid.
