Developer Blog entry from August, 14th

Reading the russian INN(TY google translate!)  this is what I understand:

  1. Singularity change

  2. Laser ammo change

  3. Laser weapon changes

  4. jericho LRF torpedo change

  5. squad change(less people)

  6. camera changes, possibly fixed camera distance(Though translation makes it weird)

  7. getting a medal for killing a higher ranked/tiered ship than yours

  8. ship boost changes

In some aspects they weren’t but in some aspects they were. Mostly it depends on the point of view.

Yet, this should be noted - we have updated the tutorial system not so long ago (and we will continue improving it), we added some new contracts that are not only interesting but also help to learn of the game’s aspects, we have continued our work on the camera, we have added a custom battle mode, and improved customisation via adding paints, we have reduced the repair prices and introduced the T5… as you can see quite a few things were done, yes, some of them need to be balanced or still in work, but we are moving forward and in this process your feedback is very important. But once again - some of the things cannot be done momentarily.

Although there have been a bunch of good things, there have also been bad ones.

T5 wasn’t needed

Synergy changes weren’t needed

Loyalty changes weren’t needed

reputation changes weren’t needed

ship tree changes were terrible, and still are partly.

…I could keep going like this for a while I think…

As it was explained numerous times R1 cannot be matched with R9. Most probably the player who was matched had a T2 ship in his battleslot, and not just T2 ship, but the ship he actually piloted for some time. You have posted some screens as we have requested before and none of them had pure T1 matched against R9 - there were always people with T2 in one of their battleslots.

Actually, it might be possible, just very unlikely…

If the matchmaker is ±3(which I believe it is) it is most definitly possible.

Tell me the Reaper is moved to Rank 9 !

Alright. Raptor, Zealot and Axe don’t exactly seem, to me, like T2 ships, but what do I know, right?

What bizarre changes. I like the camera fix but that’s minor compared to the fact that there are still game breaking issues in effect. And with agreement of everyone else- making squads smaller doesn’t solve the problem of organized groups vs pugs and you will never fix that unless you not allow groups at all. Which is ridiculous, this game has social aspects like corps.

Why not improve the social aspects. do corps still need gold? Remove that. let everyone make one. Let people build communities rather then on the backs of people with spare cash.

If I’m allowed to hazard a guess and sell conspiracy theories …

I’d say they got hacked

T5 content was compromised forcing them to release T5 stuff early (to protect their legal rights should someone else use their contents in a diff. game)

synergy and slow progression locks put in place to compensate … ?

Would explain why they buggered up Premium ships but

sales elsewhere probably made up for it so they are able to tank the loss on that?

Even if it were true, it’s still inexcusable for what happens to paid customers who bought Premium ships

Like me … T.T who bought a T4 Prem ship as a show of support on day of 0.9 patch

Only to discover their free synergy gains was utter bullcrop

and I effectively cannot fly any of my premiums if I intend on catching up with the T4/T5 crowd unless if I’m willing to PAY AGAIN lmao

@ Dev - 20% free synergy = not enough

Hum, What about StarConflict ESL?

What about the incredibly obvious segregation of T4 and T5? As Zap has already said, the biggest deterrent is the lopsided amount of times you go up a against a T5 squad with T4 ships. Hell, I already have 4 T5 ships and it’s still tough going against that, But I can’t imagine what it’s like coming straight from T3 and going up against T5 squads.

Also, will we finally get more game modes and variety in T4+? Half the matches are realistic with 2 map choices, then 45% combat recon with what fees like one choice and then you get the occasional beacon hunt and very rarely detonation.

I have been playing this game for a week with some mates.  I registered just to respond to this.

In conclusion, we’ll tell you about squads. As you know, there’s a difficult situation with the balance of power between the players who come into battle alone and going into battle in a squad. Now, the situation is that the players who are in battle against squads find it extremely hard to beat the squads.

Of course it is hard to beat the premade squads.  I mean, this is a multiplayer, online, competetive game, right?  There are tons of different ways to pull up the newbies by the boot straps, but limiting how many friends can play together to 3 is just silly.  Can you please stop calling this an MMO now?  (talk about false advertising)

Even the most obscure multiplayer game (other than the tanks crap) lets me play with my mates.  My wife, myself, and another couple play multiplayer games together.  I was just getting them into it yesterday.  Well, they will cease playing, full stop.  I don’t think I can talk them into the 30minute wait to fill a custom game, and even then we are not even guaranteed to be on the same team.

I suggest you eliminate squads all together, along with chat and corporations.  Give us funny, clipart inspired emotes that hover above my ship.  We will call that social interaction, and it will be easier on the newcomers who don’t know how to be social enough to join a corp or squad up, instead, we can all make our ships dance2 (because dance1 is for scrubs, right?).

I thought war of roses was one of the worst downward spirals I have ever seen, but this is so funny, you would think it is April first. You have spited your face.  Good for you.  Can you stop playing with feature hatchet, and instead go back to the nerf bat?  At least the nerf bat has proven longevity.  I have never heard of a game eliminating features progressively after release and doing well.

And don’t say “it is a beta”.  It is not.  “Beta” (paid) is a shield companies hide behind.  You took peoples’ money (not mine) for microtransactions, and now you have to deal with it.  I will continue to play for free until the shininess wears off, but I will also definitely tell all my gamer friends about how absolutely silly these decisions are.  I won’t be suggesting it to my friends though, as I will not be able to play *with* them anyways.  /facepalm

HO NUUUUUUUU !

THE MEME WAR RESTARTED !

I currently don’t fly most of my favourite ships because they are already at full synergy. Not just premium ships - but ships like my Kriss AE. I love flying it, but I have to fly in other ships, even ones I don’t really like just to work my way to higher level versions of these ships.

This means, right now I am spending 85% of my time in ships I’m not actually choosing to fly, I am being forced by the system.

Don’t get me wrong, I can take this kind of grind - but I’m trying to point out that even though your intention is good, the solution doesn’t really work in practice. Players with a deeper care about this, will not feel that this change sufficiently changed the situation.

One of the simple suggestions some players have brought forward is to allow transfer of stored synergy on premium ships using credits instead of GS. This means players still have to do work for it, after all the credits need to be obtained first. But it allows these players to trade one thing which costs time for another and at least increases their freedom somewhat. It might not be perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction in giving players some choice and multiple routes towards progress.

Ok, so you just bump up free synergy? I don’t get how that helps anyone. I want to know that you have resolved the issue with Premium Ships helping me progress. As it stands now, all of us are sitting on a ton of Reserve Synergy on maxed out ships (or Premium Ships). The problem for a few people is that they may have only bought the Premium Ships or 1 ship in an entire tree, so for them to progress, they now have to go back to another ship tree and level up garbage at a lower tier. I still don’t understand why you cannot do 1 of the following:

  1. Allow Synergy to transfer for credits rather than GS on Premium Ships

  2. Allow Synergy to transfer to the same tier or lower for free (or for credits)

You keep making it hard for people to want to branch out to other ship trees. Right now, I have to wait 5 minutes at least to get in to a T4 match, then I just get spanked and earn very little Synergy. T4 is still barren as it was before the patch, with small windows of hope throughout the day that you wont get stuck with a Russian Elite squad. So what is the next thing I decided to do? Go back and branch out on some other ships and get those to T3 since that is where the majority of players reside right now. That’s fine and dandy, but seriously, it took you 3 weeks to come back with that? What are you guys honestly doing over there? Unless you guys have a hidden plan with Synergy that you just didn’t disclose in this blog, 20% is not enough. I want to transfer my Synergy on my ships through another form of payment at a minimum.

I found out that I am not bad at flying Jericho frigs. But I want to go Empire Commands now. But I have to go all the way back to T2 just to accomplish this. Why? I don’t want to play T2. The people there are just awful. I find no fun in it. The fact that some people are progressing in straight lines right now up to T3 shows me how unprepared they are when they jump in. They have 1 - T3 ship and 2 - T2 ships in their hangar, and then they ask me why they keep getting one shotted. I look at their profile and see everything else is Rank 1, except for 1 sub faction which is at like rank 11. They help no one on their team at all and are completely clueless as to how big a jump there is between T2 and T3 (not to mention not even being close to properly outfitted with their ship mods). I guess I’m just floored that 3 weeks of brain mashing has come back with not much progress.

Edit: Also, are you going to convert some of the saved Syergy to Free Synergy since you are making that change? Or is the 1.2mil Synergy I am sitting on just supposed to sit there (it’s about $30-$40 to transfer that to free Synergy…)

^ Agree’d Duckie, I’ve been PC gaming for a over a decade and every single time I see these things start happening in a F2P game or otherwise, I put on my hat and coat and walk out the door. Sure, the game may still hold my attention and eat up some time, but who really wants to be limited to playing with the akward “3 man squad?” I mean really?! This is purposly breaking the 4 or 5 man teams that friends run around in when they switch games. This is going to be the final nail in the coffin for me. The things some developers overlook… Yes you can say all you want “but wait, look at the T1 newbies, feel it from their perspective.” Well I did, I played by myself for 2 days until my friends joined in with me, I did fine, call it skill or learning fast but hell… who cares right? Just because I could do it doesnt mean they can right? Who honestly cares. At least, AT LEAST, create a separate matchmaking system for premade groups.

My bud’s wife just started to play, we had a 3 man squad going for the last few nights and now what? We have to break into 2 man teams and hope to get in the same match? Ludicris, just ludicris. I have absolutely no idea what game model you are basing this decision on but it’s certainly like nothing I have seen that has ever survived more than a year. When groups of friends download this and start to play then find they are limited to the random number of 3 friends per squad that is going to break it for them. You can nerf all the ships you want just dont, dont go down this road. -Ending Rage.

the 3 man squads is probably the last straw for me… I was a newb once. I figured it out quickly that to get anywhere you need to join a corporation and squad up.

I still go solo all the time and I still win with large groups of PUGs

BUT 3 man squads is so bad for PVE. SO F’ING BAD it really is stupid.

You guys really destroyed a beautiful thing here and you should feel ashamed. Being a newb in this game is hard but its a good hard and once you get past the learning curve the game really was something special. That special has been ruined by the developers not the top tier players or the newbs.

the devs should be expanding the number of members per squad not limiting it. They should also be making corp vs corp only matches to keep the top tier players busy while the PUGs learn how to play without getting smashed every match

For many of our players this situation is a major problem and reduces their interest in the game. Therefore, we have decided to reduce the number of members in squads to three people. In the following patch this change will be enabled on the server. We understand that players who are used to fly in groups of four may be unhappy, but they should not forget the interests of the other pilots!

WTH! How we can do PVE properly!

Seriously? Your strategy is to limit player interaction?

Welp. It was a good run folks.

What I hear is: “The needs of the individual, outweigh the needs of the group. . . in a multiplayer game.”  sigh.   This all stems from the mixing of tiers.  More often than not, it isn’t 4-man squads facerolling randoms in “like” ships and fittings, but it drastically better ones.  Keep treating the symptoms.  Oh by the way, your cough is getting worse.

expanding squad members? are you freaking insane?!

4 was MORE THAN ENOUGH, 3 is good, the only problem is T4/T5 being abandoned to xxxx

I think if they are going to have corp conflicts and control over areas then it needs to have corp vs corp type combat and it should be available to have 12+ members of a corp in a battle/squad

otherwise WTF is the point of corporations?

jericho torpedo will be immune to missile shield

Wow.  This patch keeps looking better and better.  Finally.

I had to log in to give an ROFLMAO to this, you, are insane… how does 3 make any sense? 5 let alone 4 man groups are the basis for matchmaking everywhere else. You are effectively saying F-You to all vast majority of friend groups who have grown to be groups of friends because of the size of groups they are accustomed to. There is NO logic behind 3 man groups, none at all. Sorry but we all disagree with you…
