Developer Blog entry from August, 14th

As said before, in a 12v12 a 4-man-squad has not enough influence to determine the outcome of a match.

So, why change it at all?

This was my point exactly…they need to get more of the population progressed to T4 to resolve these issues.   Squads have less of an influence on a game the bigger the teams are.

I currently have less than 5m as ell Funky, but with using a license and Premium ships my ingame funds quickly go up over the course of a night.

I can’t see any problem in ‘grinding’ the ingame credits required to transfer Synergy as and when I deem the need to (note you do not have to transfer all surplus Synergy when you have it, only when and the amountyou require )

See you in 5 months when there are finally people progressed into T4!

At the moment four well-played pilots are quite the force in every match, and reducing it to three will make a change.

We will further monitor the situation of course.

I think a much bigger impact is the fact that these 4-man squads are usually flying the best ships possible to use in a match, whereas their opponents are flying weaker ships.

There wouldn’t be such an uproar against groups if you made the following changes:

  1. No more 4v4 games. 12 vs 12 or nothing.

  1. Tighten up the matchmaking. No more Rank 10 randoms vs Rank 15 groups. Rank 10s fight Ranks 10-12, 15s fight 13-15, and so on.

  1. Buff the lower ships. Personal skill should be the biggest factor in whether a Rank 10 kills a Rank 13 or vice versa. Not the fact that the Rank 13 has three extra module slots and pure blue equipment.

No one willl progress to T4 untill they split the T4 and T5 match making - Playing rank 10 v rank 15 sips IS NOT FUN, so people simply wont do it and stay T3 or leave the game

I hate seeing excess synergy, since it feels like a waste to let it rot there. I want to be able to transfer all my excess synergy(And I frankly do exactly that even with the insane pricings…)

Why did you you break a perfect system?

Reputation was brilliant.

just L O L.

There’s plenty of people already in T4 Funky…pretty much every T3 player prior to 0.9.0 should have some progression into T4 if not further.   The issue is they don’t want to play T4, not that there’s nobody up there.

2M surplus synergy, even my CreditCard said “NO”

Edit : The day I will start T4, i will be 12 everywhere, so, see you in 2-3 months

(And I already have t5 ships)

I thought this is intended? In 12v12 this gets evened out by putting other 4er squads in the opponent team.

Also, even the very best 4-man-squad can not carry a bunch of bad players to victory.

Why would you use the same ships for that goddamn long? o.O The most I have had was ~200k and that was 5 ships combined(3 premiums 2 elite)

I would as well Funky - I currently have over 3 mill surplus Synergy that will never get used as I will not spend GS’s on transfering it (unless they make it at least 100% cheaper - ie FREE )

Ive payed for the premium ships once already - Why should I pay any more to use it and benifit from it ? (And the no repair cost isn’t much of a benefit before anyone mentions that)

JP take on this new information. I will try to keep my feelings out of it, but I cant make that promise.

Camera - I honestly can care less about the camera. I can play in any way they put it, as I have the resolution advantage. But they better not break it like they did before.

Having analyzed the collected statistics, we decided that the level of generation of free synergy on premium ships should be increased to 20%. This is due to the fact that with a stronger synergy generation rate, players could opt out of further development of the ship branch, and just happen to be tied to a single vessel. In addition to changing the bonus, information about it will now be displayed in the tooltip of the ship.

You have to be kidding me…No seriously they are right now literally at the threshold of saying “please use our preniums, regardless of how bad they are, they might help you and your grind, abiet slightly.”

They have not mentioned the issue of Free Synergy  and its transfer rate, which is absuldy high. for a FTP game, its VERY expensive.

We understand that players who are used to fly in groups of four may be unhappy, but they should not forget the interests of the other pilots!

Unhappy is not the word, your ruining the team factor of the game which was such a huge focus. Squads have to be shifted, players have to choose between which mates to fly with. Division of friends or excellent 4 man squads are gonna break up the system.

In conclusion

Basically your gonna start a storm that cannot be quelled with more patches. I still strongly disagree with this, and im sure everyone will be as well.

you found a sweet roll! Congrats!

Synergy transfer for cash is really the ideal solution all round.

  • Players who progress “properly” will save cash. This makes it easier for them to keep moving forward and/or get better equipment for their ships.
  • Players who progress by flying their favourite Elites are slowed down by a huge cash sink, and then have to grind more to buy the next ship along. It slows down their progression overall and encourages them to fly the intended ship. However, it’s their choice; if they are happy grinding more rather than flying ships they don’t want to fly, more power too them. Also, it may encourage people to buy credits with gold to make up the difference.
  • Premium ships become a sweet investment - Elite synergy generated right out of the gate, plus the 20% free Synergy rate and increased cash flow (no repairs, top-of-the-tier reward rate and DLC ships have it even higher!) means that a Premium pilot is cranking out a lot more xp, more cash with which to transfer it, and has to transfer less in the first place to get the levels they want. Sounds a good sale to me!

Remember; incentives, not punishments. Don’t punish me for flying the way I want to. Don’t punish me for flying the Tier I want to, or the ships I want to. Instead, find ways to reward me for trying something new.

Here’s a sweet one off the top of my head; ditch the 2x Synergy for first win. Instead, give a Synergy bonus (1.5x?) for the first 3-5 games played each day, per ship. Once you’ve used a ship for 3-5 games it goes back to earning normal Synergy rates. Voila! A system that encourages variation and using lots of ships, not just your favourite!

The premium ship change is good, I just wish it were a little better.  20% is small, but it beats nothing.

The squad change was a very smart decision.  It will anger a lot of people, but you were right to do it.  4 man squads have far too much influence on a random battle.  Once the game has more people, perhaps something for coordinated teams could be added so that they can compete with OTHER coordinated teams.  But it was wise to bandaid “Super Coordinated Death Squad” vs “Everyone else” in random battles…

Because I refuse to play T4/T5 until I unlock all my MK3 modules, especially since the T4/t5 Guard are Jericho and  have the worst mobility of this game.

You forget all the people that quit when 0.9 hit

I was at T2 and was just about to get to T3 (with a single premium T3 engie) when suddenly my premium ship was worthless and my equipment options were severely reduced

A friend of mine I had recommended SC to that was really enjoying it quit at T1 because he was suddenly forced to use rails on his Lynx

Basically your gonna start a storm that cannot be quelled with more patches. I still strongly disagree with this, and im sure everyone will be as well.

That’s what we said at 0.9 too, yet I haven’t seen the steam player count go down much at all, it stays between 1000-600 all the time
