Perhaps you can’t. Other pilots very well can
I completely sympathise with JasanQuins position, but I just want to give the dead horse one more decent kick before this thread gets locked.
- Are destroyers over powered?
Of course they are. If this wasn’t the case then; nobody would be bothered to grind so hard to build one, so many T3 tournament teams wouldn’t be almost completely comprised of destroyers (and the odd Styx), so many spec ops teams wouldn’t be comprised of destroyers, etc.
- Are the devs going to significantly nerf destroyers?
Of course they aren’t. This game has always been about grind. Licenses, ‘bundles’ and premiums create revenue. The devs need to get paid. The current strategy appears to be to introduce new ships and modules that counter destroyers. I’d bet money that will continue and hopefully make for a more diverse and interesting game.
- Regarding the bigger picture are destroyers a good or a bad thing?
Even though I don’t like destroyers (in fact I’m still upset about being kicked out of a tournament team because I didn’t have one! ;_;), I have faith in the development team and their long term goals. Whatever brings in new players is good for all of us (within reason) - most players will leave, but some will stay. I still remember queueing (several years ago) with less than 250 players online (when they still had the pilot counter) + 500 ping, etc - Even if I get minced by an aim-bot brick once in a while, Id prefer the current situation.
Let the destro-n()()bs have their day in the sun. Many will have helped support a game you enjoy.

Ha! Finally I see someone with similar thinking regarding devs and player base, cheers! I just hope they won’t be too scared to change things.
Also I think destroyers’ OP-ness partially comes from great speed and maneuverability. We were told those would be slow and tough but in fact you see plenty of highly maneuverable and fast ones (compared to frigates) - this is just wrong.

When I played with my procyon (which also had a pretty bad build), I was able to get 7+ kills every match and 10+ assists.

+1
their long term goals.
I’m pretty sure there aren’t any. They just make xxxx up as they go leaving previous ideas unfinished/abandoned (case in point – dreads)

Laboratory feature was abandoned? Tier 5 Dreadnought battles as well?
What’s your status, devs?
New matchmaker creates battles according to balance destroyers evenly to both teams. It’s no longer possible to see 3 destroyers vs 1 or anything like that. And we’re making changes in some of their modules pretty often, but not planning to do any radical change.

Not true. I see it all the time. People put destroyers in their lineout and then do not use them, creating an imbalance

Yes, it creates imbalance, but the fault isn’t from devs, but from players who put destroyers in his lineout and then don’t use them.

Really? It’s the player’s fault that he wants a little diverse lineup and not play the same easy ship every single game?
Funny… a meson spread weapon don’t do well against a static barrier? WOW. It’s not that you don’t hit a xxxx at long range with this weapon…
Why doesn’t they balance the MM, that an idiot can’t use his tackler/ECM as captain in combat recon? Those idiots die so fast! Q.Q DON’T LET THEM DO THAT! T.T And if someone doesn’t get it: Devs aren’t responsible for the stupidity of players.

As we all know, MM already is-and always will be-a complex issue, its our choice to inform the naive / not well informed players.
CinnamonFake (Today, 09:32 AM):
It’s pilot’s choise, we can’t calculate such individual actions in MM. If he thinks his team will handle the battle this time without his destroyer, why we should restrict them?
As for me, I learn a lot from global chat and corp chat, so why not spread the info and inform others? This will make a difference, eventually.

There always will be ways to do unreasonable, spontaneous actions, that’s called life ;) And: at least we have the -what was it- 45 sec captain security time after his 1st death in this time frame for that, havn’t we?

If a pilot thinks that their Hercules is good enough to be used in a Tier 5 match, why should you restrict them?

There are reasonable choices and then there are stupid choices. You are illustrating the latter.

It’s 90s or? But those pilots just hide until it run out to die after that.
Even with the ‘timer’, you still have a disadvantage to have such a captain. Especially in those non-skilled pilot’s hand.

I rest my case.

Cinnamon, it’s not a matter of the MM. It’s the fact that destroyers have a huge influence on the outcome of a match, whether you like it or not. So if three guys on one team choose not to take theirs, and the enemy team has three of them, then it’s game over. This would not be the case with say guards or something.

If you are refering to my post: i meant a situation where the destroyer fires with dmg mode, broadside at less than 3km. Its not a matter of spread, its of damage (DPS specifically); the high survb of static shields (not sure if you meant static shields, the DD missile) with its low cooldown soaks up way too much dmg from meson. A coilgun simply cant destroy static shields in time.
