These seem very underwhelming, I can only see them being useful in open space if you expect light damage and need to repair cumulative damage to your hull. To put them a bit more in line with the barriers, I have a few buffs in mind that will allow them to fulfill a different defensive role than barrier shields.
Extend the repair range to 800m. Right now, you have to practically park your destroyer on top of a damaged ally if you want to lend your support. Good luck getting an ally to fly close enough to receive repairs, they’ll sooner run back into the fray with 20% hull than make the connection, mainly because nobody uses these, and nobody without a destroyer knows they can actually repair you quite decently.
Give them a point defense laser. Every 2 seconds, a drone will be able to nullify a single enemy projectile, but not missiles or drones. This will make drones a better choice for repelling slow firing weapons like the halo and coil mortars, while leaving the destroyer completely open to rapid fire weaponry that can overwhelm the point defense grid easily. Meanwhile, the barrier shield option will be nearly impervious to these rapid fire weapons, while being weak to the slow firing explosive-type weaponry.
So here there will be the trade off: Do you want to be nearly impervious to all light projectiles and beam weapons, while being vulnerable to explosives? OR do you want to be able to shoot down the rare but powerful shots of heavy explosive weaponry for yourself and allies, repair hull, but at the cost of being easily focus fired and having your PD overwhelmed by a torrent of lesser fire?
With option A, you are nearly untouchable by Meson Cannons, but are torn to pieces by Halo Launchers.
With option B, you are nearly untouchable by Halo Launchers, but torn to shreds by Meson Cannons.
(Of course there are other weapons, but these two extremes highlight the difference very well)

But seriously the devs have no idea what they are doing. Every concept or idea by the community has been twisted and skewed in to some other irrelevant idea that only fits one specific ship and is nearly impossible to get.
its odd seeing “suppressors” have no offensive missle slot but only defensive.
i think about static drones that destroys incoming missle and attack enemies at 750m range but they have only 25 degree or less shooting angle

Yes exactly, can’t stop the train, now, though, we are chained to the Tharga’N’Friends follyness…
However, some things they implemented, somethings came up in frigattes (Phoenix&Reaper,Dart)
In the end it got nerfed so that interceptor heros could farm them… “What a waste”!
I think HRD are the best option for the Federation destroyers… because I think Federation gets to use 3 drones instead of 2… which means up to 1000+ hull regen… cuz shields aint a good thing on them, just regen and mobility
There is so much more to do with dessy… but some randoms newbies say “they are op” or “pls nerf” or “this take too long to get”
so since then we are not getting a single new stuff for dessy…
We need more guns, modules, secondary weapon, different classes of dessy, even why not premium dessy, they is soo many option I feel like it’s a total waste
One problem in destroyer fights is, that tempest TARGET each drone additionally compared to the shields. Meaning you get 8 incomings instead of just 2 with being fed using HRD…
Don’t know if they have fixed it or not, but those drones count as additional model for collision purposes. Meaning if you slight cross near another object and your drone(s) touch it, you are repelled by it…
Even in OS the difference between shields vs. drones depend on the sector you are in(most times) as shield is simply better in first place as drones(0 incoming damage is superior to all incoming damage with just additional hull regen).
The 800m radius should be straight implemented, as this harm noone(indirect PvP, but engineer remain the way better option if correct played).
