Currently, Every few Combat Recon games(Mainly in the lower tiers, T1/T2) - You may perhaps get a new player, which is selected as the captain - This can cause alot of frustration, as they generally do not know what to do, and may simply fly into the whole enemy team, and die a horrible death. This generally causes the team to rage and begin flaming the captain, for something that could be avoided.
I Propose that there is an ‘Opt In’ Button, to be chosen for the commander, Meaning that there is dramatically less newer players becoming the captain and ‘ruining’ some games, causing frustration and rage. To even out the people that ‘Opt In’ and help select who should be the commander, The % of time the player is selected for commander, should be stored, and the people with the lower% that opts in should have a higher chance of being the commander, for a more fair process.
If No-one ‘Opts In’ Then the commander should be chosen via the current system.

Not a new idea, but its briliant. That stored %times chosen isent needed, it would average out over time anyways.
This would solve the problem, as Skadoodle say, when a new player become chosen as the commander, but also stop players who dont want to be the commander from being chosen and put players who want to be commanders there instead.
proposed this once already, actually with an opt-out, however still for it, in any way realized.
Just to calm nerves for a possible counter thought: if in future when every older player uses this, a player decides he also wants to play captain and get score and good reputation for his actions on the field by his fellow wingmen, he will start to change his deck anyway to have captainable ships. So there is no loss involved, if somebody never really gets to play the captain, if everybody is using the system right. Actually, it becomes his own fault if he never really learns the burden.
A better solution would be to make sure the player had played a certain amount of combat recon games before becoming captain. There are enough established players that this shouldn’t be limiting.
My third match of Star Conflict, I was the captain in combat recon. THIRD MATCH EVER!!! We died of course.
My last time as captain, I was an interceptor, got a kill and a few assists, and we won.
Also, could corporation members have a higher incentive? Most people believe that being in a corporation means that you have some level of skill attached. So It could be a good idea as well.
i think that the Aces have to learn the hard way. its a never-ending circle, when i was captain for the first time, i did exactly you wrote - run and die in less than 20 sec. all shouted at me, so i learn that i have to hide… and now i love to be a captain 
if you will let Aces not to be a captain, they will never learn how to be one.

It could be a problem when you try to learn being a captain for the first time if this was implanted, but it would be a lot better than how it currently works. With this idea, you could wait with opt in as captain untill you feel you know somewhat what the mode is about.

full-time holding hands doesn’t work… i simply do not find the idea to make the game easier good, it will make game so boring i will stop play. dont you want to plant the bombs at 5.000 distance also? because newbies doen’s know how to approach to the beacon?
1 Month ago… my first Combat Recon as captain, just hided in a giant ship hole. :lol: I survived… that was awesome.
In one of my combat recons when I was doing T2, I forget the map but I found the hidden ship hole. The people guarding me stayed around it enough that it wasn’t obvious. It’s a beautiful hiding spot, the other guys even joked about it. I did get disconnected for inactivity, but I was able to reconnect without my team dieing! I think I just hit tab to keep an eye out for incoming ships the active players might miss. There wasn’t a lot of rushing, it got boring. We won at least, those were the only points I got that game.

I’ve had good games as captain. I’ve had sad games. It helped when I stopped using the ship with the largest “surviability” rating instead of what I liked. Combat recon captains need experience, and what other time can a “low ranked” player show leadership skill?
I agree that there should be a better system. Why not just have a voting scheme where everyone picks someone on the team to be the captain. Person with the most votes gets it.
The current system makes it possible for your, or the enemy team, to have a “bad” captain who is actually killable. WIth a voting style only certain people will always be captian who can’t be killed.

But it becomes kind of boring if only “pro” people become the captain and every Combat Recon becomes a 12 minute wait.
i see only one thing to change in the CR system - i believe it is good as it is, but - i would make captains to fly the same ship. I mean, if you force me to be a captain, gimme a captain ship! and I want to other captain have the same odds besides his flying skill.
how should captain ship be like: 10k hp, 15k shields, 500energy, max. speed 250/350m/s; does not have primary weapon, but have 10 mines and 4 nukes. continuous shield and hull repair like in pve. some active modules maybe. BUT not affected by active modules of other ships.
It’s not just captains rushing the enemy team, it’s also captains suiciding at the start because they did not want to play captain or were just trolling, or captains spawning in a t1 ship in a t3 battle, or captains simply being plain bad at being a captain.
It’s terribly annoying when one person can doom an entire team and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s not a good game mechanic.
We need that opt-in to attenuate the problem. And ideally limit it to players with a match-making rank near the top of the match-making bracket for that battle so you do not get that t1 captain in a t3 battle.

There is nothing wrong with Combat Recon, there is just as much chance that your team will derp as their team.
