Collectible Crew Members

Star Conflict lack low level interactivity. You currently have:

  • looking at ship tree
  • tinkering with ship equipment
  • global / corp chat

Outside of combat - there isn’t much else to do. prolly why global gets spammed so much.

    Star Conflict babes
No I’m not pervy. Ok - maybe. But I haven’t had any accusations of being one. That or I’ve never been caught. Whatever.
We need an excuse to showoff more game art and its’ characters. Especially the females rawr.

    Storyline, RPG
Being the game that it is, there are limited opportunities to include the game’s storyline anywhere. Hardly anyone goes over to the main website to read stuff, not that it has much on it anyway. And the community here have little that provides inspiration-incentive for expanding the background story.

    So suggestion:

How about adding Crew Members to your hangar?

I’d be mighty disappointed if I’m the only person working on that gigantic frigate. Screw clones, droids, automation. We all grew up watching sci-fi series that feature crew members manning spaceships.

I’d like to:

  • see their pictures
  • read their stories
  • work for sub factions unlocking access to different types of crew members
  • browse job listings to find a candidate
  • bid on auction for candidates
  • work to get special edition crew members
  • see other player’s crew members
  • trade with other players for crew
  • receive messages from NPCs
  • deal with NPC issues … Chief engineer too drunk to work etc
  • feel sad when a loyal crew member retires
  • argue with Faction Command when they transfer one of my team

etc.

What does Crew Members give?

  • absolutely nothing.

something useless I’d like to collect.

Like Tier 1 experimentals.

Features:

1. Profile pictures

  • you can make these randomly generated or generic

  • offer GS to customize the exact look of your favourite crew members

2. Bio-data

  • Each crew member will have 3 paragraphs on his/her bio

  • 1st paragraph = Faction story

— Vary this by having several versions and each crew gets a random one or similar mechanic

  • 2nd paragraph = Sub-Faction story

— Vary this by having several versions of the sub-faction. Each one tells one part of the subfaction story

  • 3rd paragraph = Personal details randomly generated

— likes/dislikes. hopes and dreams. phobias. previous captains etc. relationships. family back at home etc.

3. Recruitment

Don’t really care how it’s done. You guys can come up with fresh ideas I bet.

4. Auction

Lets make this fun. Implement an auctioning system in-game. Refer to browser based sports management games. You keep a DB of NPCs. Human players make a bid in credits. Wait 24 hours for results. Bid further if necessary etc. It’s done well in other games and adds to player 2 player interaction outside of combat especially when you can see player names during the auction.

eg. Imagine I see Error making a bid on a good looking Jericho Comms Officer and try to outbid him etc.

5. Trade

Lost that auction? No worries. You can PM the winning captain and arrange a trade. It’s not combat or performance related so it’s safe to trade. Maybe act as a prototype / research tool for possible trade function in the future?

6. Simple RPG mechanic

Receive daily NPC issues you can decide on might add to the immersion. Not much but better than nothing.

example:

Engineer reports a problem with missile bay

A. Spend 5,000 Credits to repair

B. Ignore. Lose ability to use missiles in next match

C. Fire the Engineer. Fix missile bays yourself. Receive replacement Engineer tomorrow.

7. Storyline

Receive random events from Factions.

One of your crew is a saboteur! Carry out special contracts to unlock the story! License gives double the chance for Storyline contracts!

8. Crew members can die

Yep - that’s right. This game is hardcore. Your ship blows up in combat? There is a chance one of your crew dies. Happen too often and some of them might decide to retire or leave you for better captains.

How about the ability to create your crew yourself? I have 12 characters in Eve, they’re my crew, mwuahaha! x)

Overall I like this idea!

“Star Conflict lack low level interactivity”: I completely agree with this sentiment. Small, micromanagement opportunities that are all entirely optional would be great. I’d like to see the ‘rpg’ in mmorpg in this game.

“Star Conflict babes”: Itd be great to see more characters and character art of all genders, but please. Please. No women in space armor-kinis. So many games do that and it just makes them trashy and unrespectable.

“Storyline, RPG”: agree 100%. You get very little of the storyline ingame. And a lot of our story-minded players would have a ball if it had more of a presence.

Crew Members: I would like to have all those little people standing around my ship actually mean something. Maybe the amount of people there are based on the crew members you’ve collected. Why not be able to mouse over them and get a tool tip of who they are? Click on them, and it brings up their mini profile, and a dropdown to move them between ships. In fact, have YOU/your character present as well!

Recruitment can be done randomly, or behave similar to achievements. Perhaps after your first victory, you get your first crew member interested in joining you [out of a pool of random ‘starter’ crew characters, so there is diversity between players. Perhaps the names are always randomized, as well as their photos, history, and ect]. Play it so you start out solo and work your way up in building a reliable crew.

As you advance, harder ‘achievements’ would trigger more ‘high ranking’ crew, and even perhaps some lore names/figures [perhaps these are the collectibles?]. Get special crew opportunities based on the ships you are flying, the faction your corp is fighting for, and etc.

Auction House: There should be an action house in the first place for people to buy and sell modules and weapons. But not NPC’s. This isnt the 1800’s! Instead have a ‘bulletin board’ where people can make postings that sort of acts in a similar way. you can sift through the ‘bulletins’ about crew members looking for greener pastures posted by other players. Or perhaps, its all randomized? And sometimes rare crew post bulletins up, so you can snag them if your fast and have the credits to do so.

RPG Mechanic & Storyline: I support these, these are a great opportunity to expand on your crew members, as well as your own character’s story. this has great opportunity to be broadened in the future as well. And each player will have a unique experience since crew acquisition will be different for everyone.

Crew Member Longevity: I’m 50/50 about this. Same with crew members leaving. It could be that as ‘long as a crew member was acquisitioned and was present in a match on your current ships’ they count for that ‘collection’. Perhaps you can look at it in a sort of ‘logbook’ tab that shows past and present crew. This would mean they are ok if they die. But it might be more interesting if they were simply injured or that its ‘assumed they escaped in escape pods’ and take a few battles before they return to you. [and probably return a little ruffled and annoyed]. Perhaps an ‘escape pod’ with a crew member can be a loot option as well.

And you would be able to date a crew member. Before going to battle you would ask her hand and hang her photo in your cockpit. Of course you would inevitably die doing something heroic and in the game over screen you would see your fiancee cry while staring in the void of space.

What is RPG without tragic loss?

Technically - you’d want them dead so the cycle continues. Otherwise you’d amass an army.

This isnt the 1800’s!

Tell that to major league sports worldwide.

I have to admit this made me laugh, hahaha.

Toushe’

I guess it depends how much you want to punish collectors. I do agree you may amass an army. Unless you can keep so many based on how many ships you’ve unlocked, and its required you attach them to a ship to free up your buffer space [of what, 5 slots?] for new crew. then they can be distinct to each ship. Like your own little fleet. :]

Oh and paint jobs should change their uniform colors. :]

Specialty crew members unlock specialty stickers for a limited time, or better yet, *le gasp* lumifiber

lumifiber

now that’s OP

Heaven forbid if I want to taunt my opponent by being a giant lightbulb

I like most ideas, tho i can see a couple “issues”.

I’m all for anything that adds immersion and increases the time people will want to spend in game, i’d have no objection in an auction to purchase slaves… err… i mean crew members. However people would instantly expect modules to be able to be traded on the auction, and i doubt that is in the interest of the devs, auction would mean trading modules at a lower price than the vendors (except for experimental items perhaps) which would mean a lower credit sink, which means less farm, which would mean less people willing to pay for licenses to reduce the farm. Don’t get me wrong, i’d rather have less of a farm, but i don’t see it happening.

Other than that minor thing, i agree with everything else, except for number 8,  “Your ship blows up in combat? There is a chance one of your crew dies.”

Although this would surely add to the immersion and slightly add some realism to the game, a penalty for death which could potentially cost hundreds of thousands or millions of credits? Sure the devs might see it as a great money sink to counter the auction, or simply increase the amount of hours spent, however i see it as a reason for people to stop going for the match objectives and fearing death even more so than now, where the only penalty is a hit to dsr…

Thought of that … but I so wanted this

Haha, already married my crewmember in SWTOR :stuck_out_tongue:

However if the crew member is the one that dies, wouldn’t it be you, the pilot, crying over the lost crew member? xD

I’d like to at least just watch engineers work on my ships while they’re in the hangar bays, like repairing the hull. When you enter the queue, they wrap up their work and proceed to vacate the bays. I don’t want to see a bunch of personnel just standing on the catwalk, slacking on the job talking about who-knows-what, and some random freight-carrying mech waddling around and doing nothing but rotate its manipulators like its a cheap toy.

The crew dying thing can be fixed easily enough… ejector module! These get used up in any battle where the ship is destroyed and can be replaced cheaply enough. As long as the ship has one your crew cannot die.

You could also have the option of a “Deluxe” version, which protects the crew from injuries as well. This would cost more, of course, but if you want to molly-coddle your pilots you’re going to have to sacrifice some of your winnings to do it…

Note that ejector tech would not be expensive; maybe 1/4 to 1/2 the cost of reloading the ship. It’s meant to be a very small credit-sink, nothing more.
