Until now no matter which server you choose you always end up in the RU one. So if we have the possibility to completely FORBID the game to choose “x” server for us, even if it costs us longer queue times, I’ll be happy.

You can read about it in the patch notes for v0.8.4 but they are not very detailed. Under the Matchmaking section, the second entry states Allows you to select the region where the server is located.
When implemented, it was a wonderful idea but unexpected bugs crippled gameplay and they had to create a hotfix to salvage that week.
What I believe happened is somewhere in the code, the server forgot to use the new rules for matchmaking. When a game started, at least a few players in every game would never be able to connect. This resulted in many lop-sided contests for a couple of days until the server choice option was scrapped. In the worst cases. half of a team would never join the battle. They would be stuck “Loading” for the entirety of the match.
I hope the developers still have this planned for later, maybe as an update for the official release when the player base is large enough to handle such a change. At present, queue times would skyrocket if players from multiple continents could not be joined in games. Everyone who chose their home server group would be stuck waiting for players from their region to join queue until enough pilots were present to start a game.

From what I remember, half the team not being able to join was a good match. One match ended up being a 6v1 beacon hunt. Another was a genuine 1v1 domination.

No, you can only select one server, My sugestion is alow you select more then one server to you search battle, discarting servers you wont fight.
I’m not sure if this server option has something to do with the latance/ping…
And i’m not even sure if the devs even care that my ping here in the Philippines is around 350ms…
I was fairing well and coping up with around 250ms ping… It only causes me not to raise my DSR or skills rating…
Until a couple of weeks ago, my latancy suddenly got worse and I could hardly even win a game because of the delay… And it started just when one of those new patches around 9.8 was implemented…
