Change Speed Cap for Different Ships

I agree to SoldierOfFortune

Give all ships the cruise engine with speed caps in first post, but restrict it to invasion mode only, it has no use in PVP or PVE except for trolling and chicken run

It takes a f**** long time for a frig to get to the outer sectors of space

If Frigates could travel as fast as Interceptors, why should players fly Interceptors in Invasion?

We can have the same statement with fighters

Some people prefer interceptors instead of frigates and people who don’t have much time to play can get frustrated by not getting very far in invasion with a frig. (You can save exit and continue later on, but then you can’t play pve or pvp in the meanwhile)

The cruise-engine will just be a time saver.

You can always make remote stations dockable then you don’t need cruise-engine, just dock at a station and continue later on (I suggested this a while ago)

They prefere Interceptors, because they are faster. If a Frigate is as fast as an Interceptro, why should someone pick it?

In that case, “If fighters are as fast as an interceptor, why should someone pick it”?

interceptors with cruise-engine (caps 700, with more manuverability then fighters)

frigs with cruise-engine (caps 450 - 500, with no manuverablility)

Interceptors are fast, agile and energy stable (if you build it correctly)

frigates with cruise engines are not agile (flying bricks), and cruise engine is not energy stable (make cruise engine for frigs burn energy faster and make them less manuverable (can only fly straight, like warpengine)

In that case, “If fighters are as fast as an interceptor, why should someone pick it”?

And yet, there are plenty of interceptors

Thanks, my first phrase seems to have been unseen.

I’m a huge ceptors fan. I’m quickly bored with other ships.

But once I’ll have a decent tackler leveled up and the hull module that increase cargo will be in game, I assure you I won’t fly ceptors anymore in invasion. And I can’t find any reason for someone to take one over a fighter (out of a fast station switch with recon). Those last are just more effectives.

Error, you missed the first part of the suggestion. Frigates would be speed capped at 500m/s, and even if they reached this speed with a cruise engine, they would be unable to turn as almost none of the frigates have more than 1 engine slot.

Frigates would still be very vulnerable to NPCs, specifically those with homing weapons (like Hunters), because they still wouldn’t be able to outrun their projectiles.

So it’s essentially a trade-off. Frigates have more cargo space and armor, but even with a cruise engine, can’t completely evade enemy combat. Unlike a Tackler or Recon. So if you have multiple swarms of enemies bearing down on you in a frigate, you can try to run, but it won’t always work.

The grizzly M will be a Sad frigate then. You can reach more than 500 M/S in a good build…

You’d be surprised at how well a Rockwell doing a corkscrew cruise can evade fire ;p Plus with 2 verniers they can turn pretty fast in the battle, drop two drones at 250m from target, shoot a few singularities or use the gravibeamer curved reflector, then disappear.

I’m not the best pilot in the world but you can see how the cruise engine is hardly a hinderance vs a large number of ship types. I prefer to use the drones as a fighting tool however it can also become a poop and run tactic if you are under too much fire ;p

M8 that video title is hilarious

Oh my God!!

What a mess… Please NO!

1 inqusitor would get focused but 12 of those at 500m/s…

not even god could save us from that…

Just change Reverse Thruster cooldown to 8 seconds would take care of them ;p
