Change crafted Attack drone to "killer drone"

Attack drones for crafted ammo is cool and all, but for the price of materials, (namely the monocrystals,) they should be way better. (Don’t criticise yet.)

Howabout instead of two simple Attack drones, the weapon lets out one, slightly larger “Killer Drone” that does heavy damage and has its own range, radar and everything. It’s essentially like letting out a bot to fight for you. It has a very durable hull as well, and slowly regens over time if not shot. Any kills it gets will get you a kill, same with assists. Killing this drone gives synergy to the killer in PvP. (Low syn though.)

It should be launched, and never return. Just fight-fight-fight until it gets killed. If there are no enemies on its radar, though, it will return to you.

That seems a bit too strong imo.  I mean it would depend on the ship’s stats, but basically you are just adding an extra (bot) player on your side for the team.  Considering how bots in PVP are already very strong, this could quickly render matches unbalanced.

Monocrystal=op

But seriously, things would have to be tweaked heavily, but this would be more distinct than just plain old attack drones. And slightly more useful in higher tier matches.

I think the best solution for the crafted drones is change the monocrystal to something valuable, but more easily obtainable (maybe osmium crystals?). Since the recipe would be simpler, dial down the attack drones so that they do less damage than the credit drones engineers can buy.

Good idea. Do that, then make a -separate- crafted thing for this idea. Then everyone’s happy. :3

They should change doomsday mechanic also!

If you fire it and missile hit something everyone on map dies!

Agreed with millanbel, it would unbalance matches more.

Also, nice to see people are using my sig generator  I will add more features soon.

Like I said; needs huge tweaking. But I really would like to see something like this.

Or maybe you launch it like a guided torpedo. So it’s like a normal ship, but if it dies, you just launch another. :3

if i’m honest, i think keeping attack drones with monos in would be alright, the extra power is a tradeoff for the cost it takes to make. Making one big regenerating killer bot that just murders everyone would be abused VERY easily, think how effective a tackler and attack drones in t1 PvP is already, now imagine a killer bot on the loose that no t1 can take down because it will kill them so fast. Bots in PvP ARE already hard enough, they have near-perfect accuracy, especially in LRF’s and can unload stuns on you the moment you come into range. Not to mention that someone has programmed them to be inherently evil in the use of active modules in general. Their flaw is where the AI is stupid and fixates on a one-by-one-kill-them-all basis and ignores other ships trying to kill it, especially cov ops behind it arcing it to death.

Perhaps this could be an adapted version of the heavy guard drone as attack drones are already sentry drones that move. As such, it wouldn’t be too OP because the projectile speed will be low, but it would be effective against frigates and the damage would vary with tier much like the current credit attack drones.

I do, however, like the idea of the drone being free-to-go, with it’s own radar, engines, thrusters etc, like a mini flying cannon. It’d be nice if it was dual-mode, being either like a guided missile or relying on AI when not under pilot control. If the host ship dies, so does the drone.

Hmmmm… That’d be cool. But if they give it the same stupid christmas bauble drone model I’m going to die.

you realise that the attack drone model is just a sentry drone with armor and wings, it’d probably look ike a mini-caltrop as the bauble drone texture is the heavy guard drone anyway

Sigh… Leave my attack dogs ALONE !  :004j:

Lets not go down the path of reducing the numbers…   Remember way back when the Engineer Attack drones were reduced to the limit of 2.

Yes the attack drones deal a little bit more damage ( well alot more).

Just like I hate it when out of the blue a bunch of engineering drones comes after me  …you have to deal with it

it comes down to a choice you have to make… kill the drones or kill the ship that targeted you.

The use of attack drones been commented upon …since the dawn of time    and they are still here !

i personally love them, they give the slightly fluffy engineers a survival boost effectively, and they fit the engineer role nicely - contrtucting battlefield tools

This idea sounds like the Companion…
