Bring back the backstory!

Once upon a time, ships had descriptive little snippets about their origin and history. Yet they were taken away and replkaced by bland, unimaginative overviews of what the class does, which nobody ever reads.

Backstory matters. It is one of the elements that bring communities together. It’s why Corporations and pilots alike have stories to explain their in-universe existence.

Bring the old descriptions back, make new ones or, hell, hold a competition to get the community to revamp them! But however you do it, do it!

I don’t know why they were removed on first place, I actually enjoyed reading them…

I support this idea. Lore is the soul of any sci fi game. And the basic idea for this game lore yells to be expanded.

They described the Tier 4 ships as the top-notch front-line ships. They were the newest, most advanced ships out there. Once Tier 5 was incorporated into the game, the statements were made false so they were deleted. I was under the impression that the backstory of each ship would be included in the final release, but Jasan has a point. It has been a really long time since they were removed.

That in itself was so easy to resolve though. I mean, just take my own head-canon of Empire / Jericho ships…

Tier 1: Direktorium Era (confirmed canon by ship descriptions).

Tier 2: Old, borderline obsolete ships from 3rd Bartel War era (confirmed canon by ship descriptions).

Tier 3: Mainstay ships.

Tier 4: Cutting edge “modern” ships (confirmed canon by ship descriptions).

Tier 5: Iridium / Precursor tech empowered prototypes. These ships could not be built without the considerable amounts of Precursor tech discovered in Sector 1337 (purely fan speculation).

That works nicely, and there is no reason bar pure laziness and “we don’t care” thinking that they couldn’t have done this themselves.

I miss the days where Fed ships were characterized not by their speed, but by their comfortable and luxurious interiors.

I actually imagine the Empire ships as that, luxurious ships with red majestic seats, while Fed have average interiors and Jericho a lot of technology and stuff there.

Technically, Jericho only have 1 guy in a ships, you know, brain-connected to the computer.

Ehm, not entirely, there’s a difference, and it entirely depends on everyone’s view on what ‘luxury’ actually means.

I’d bring IRL cultural studies in here and state that the empire would actually have heavily decorated or quite simple yet expensive monumental interiors so in every way possible to represent the might of the empire / emperor and show their faith. The feds would have the luxurious interiors because that’s why they left the empire in the first place: to become free and achieve their goals, who they want to be, thus getting all that stuff into their ships as well.

Now, luxury can mean golden, marble and other expensive stuff ship interiors for empire, while for feds it can mean smooth aestethics and even lush greenery.

On the Jericho side, it’s the ‘luxury of technology’. Instant everything at your fingertips to do something, aside non-tech activities that don’t require it, but can still make a use of it in an incredible number of ways.

A complete set would be all 3-in-1, which even IRL means quite something to have, and currently it does not exist anywhere in the entire world.
