Bots: Revamped!

Bots: Revamped!

Do you hate it when you have bots in your 1 v 1 match or 2 v 2, etc? Don’t you wish they actually DID something useful instead of being a filler for players? Well fear not, mercenary! JP has the ultimate solution! (Free from sweet roll influences of course!)

Option 1: Bots respond to commands through the already existing ping system. Basically, you ping anything you deem a target. And they will move to that target. If its a beacon they will capture it, an enemy player, attack. If you ping a friendly player or beacon, they will come to assist. This will make bots actually useful to have. Also, add a self ping, so bots can just follow you if necessary. We might have to add another key for “Bot” Pings to make a difference for bots and normal pings for team mates

Option 1A: In larger battles where there is lets say 5 v 5 and there is only 2 v 2 players. Each player controls one bot, while the fifth bot will just follow and copy cat its fellow bots.

In this system, players will have to be marked a letter. So, next to your ship you see a little “A” or “B”, etc and next to the bots will be the same letters. Thus you can easily distinguish who controls who.

Option 2: If all the players die in a match, and there is only bots on the field. Players can come back in, and “assume control” of the bots. This will prolong battles or end them quick. And make the game less stale should it ever occur.

Option 3: Remove bots and add low tiered players. How would this work? Higher tier players do proportionally LESS damage to the Teir they are in. For example, if a T5 attacks a T1, that T5 will do the same damage as a T1, while the T1 can attack back with the damage of a T5 proportionally. This mode only works when there is a difference of more then +/- 3

Option 4: All bots are assigned to a player. If its a battle again with 5 vs 5 and lets say its a 2 v 2 with 3 bots on each side. Then each player gets 1 bot and the other 2 are autonomous but follow the other bots around. Ping system is not active. They only follow you. making it sort of a partner relationship

Option 4A: If added, all bots will fly the same ship class you are flying.

Option 5: JP needs an intervention regarding his sweet rolls. He does not know that his habits are hurting the people that love/like him!

Let me know if you want these options implemented in the game! It could be possible! What do you think? Have a better suggestion to one of the options? Make a response below, I might consider changing it if its a great idea!

JP HACK - Signing out - *throws Sweet rolls like flares and escapes*

could be my imagination but i think i see them already tweaked?

they buddy up and i think protect engineers… or is that just me and my wishful thinking.

let me guess… someone steal you sweet role

I experienced a 3v3 realistic where we killed all the players and the bot won their game. sometimes i just underestimate them.

Bots understand the game styles except for detonation and combat recon.  They’ll absolutely ignore the bomb even if they capture it, and they won’t focus on protecting a captain.  It does make detonation the best for actual arcade practicing.  The biggest issue is just there’s no teamwork with bots other than following the bot.  Then there’s the skill issue.  Bots have different skills and I believe it’s set at game creation time, it’s not dynamic to make sure that the bots don’t dominate or be useless.

One thing I want from bots, reaction time delay when using lasers.

G4borg, I think I could have been in that match.  I had a 3v3 realistic where the bot won the game.  Nothing like just sitting there as you watch a bot spawn a guard against interceptors all alone, go protect a beacon, and then slowly fly to the last remaining beacon on the enemy’s side to win the match without firing a shot.

But I personally wish there was a buddy system and the bots spawn and follow your line up.

Like if am an interceptor. I want my bot to copy cat me. Follow me and attack or capture targets that I target.

Imagine how cool it would be to have a wing man!

That would indeed be cool. Would be cooler if we never needed the bots to be spawned at all in the first place.

Remove all bots!

Or how about bots that copy your ship completely and have the same modules!

I had one match, a 3v3 combat recon, one bot on each side.  Knowing the bot mechanics, I told the captain to stay near the bot.  He understood, and got closer to the bot.  How sad is that?

I like option 4, and would like to see it implemented along with 4A, but with one change.

Instead of the bot copying your ship class, choose which ship in the bot’s hangar you would prefer her/him to fly.

In some cases, duplicate ship classes are quite strong (i.e. double ECM or double Long Range) but other like pairs would not be as effective (dual Command Fighters, Reconnaisance Interceptors or Engineers).

I totally agree !!!

Not all BOTs are created equal…

I seen where the BOTS one one side seem to rack up kills… while the other side BOTs had 0   It could be that the skill level on the human side has alot to do with it.

And they sure take thier merry time in getting from one place to another…

I would like to have two powers that bots appear to have.

  1. PvE ints can shoot sideways and still fly straight

  2. (ok DRONES, but still) my engineer’s attack drones fly through walls, sometimes even when I don’t want them to

And I really hate playing on maps where bots fly into a wall instead of going around. Not that they die, but that they waste time just sitting there trying to go forward when the other bot and I are outnumbered and dying.
