This is becoming a major gripe of mine since I primarily fly “tank” ships. I will fly at a beacon, get within 750m (capping range) and then absorb the fire of half the enemy team while my allies capture the point. I get no reward for doing this, despite the fact that I’m clearly providing a service - thanks to me, they aren’t getting shot!
My proposal, therefore, is that all ships within 750m of a beacon when it is capped count as capping it.
But it already does that way. Any ship who had capped at least one point the last 15 seconds I think will get a beacon capture even if you are dead.
No it doesn’t. You have to start capping at least once. If you are taking fire during your approach and they never let up you won’t get capture rewards even if you were physically ramming the beacon the whole time.

I know your pain. I missed many beacons, just because I either bumped the station, or when I was approaching it and got shot at, thus interrupting my connection. It needs to be fixed ASAP.

you know he said, "Any ship who had capped at least one point the last 15 seconds "
you basically said the same thing both of you.
it lasts around 15-25 seconds if you have been able to get one capture point by the beacon. but again. just because you got hit before you got any capture points and the teammates took the beacon means you helped out ur team in winning.
capturing a beacon does not provide any rating, but might increase win ratio. “as in if you win”
to take a beacon you are not supposed to be attacked by enemies and are supposed to kill off the attackers first and then take the beacon.
but today people try to play the game the easy way to gain synergy points and money by just flying around the beacon without doing anything. "thats like the simplest thing you could ever do and it also makes the game kinda boring if everyone would been a recon or interceptor doing that…
i dont see the big deal. capturing a beacon does not help ur rating.
recon and interceptors ability = capture beacon faster, wich means that is their task to take beacons. “they are supposed to do that” and you are supposed to take the damage to cover teammates.
Well, no. To actually capture, you have to avoid being hit. That is a skill. If you are bad at it, you don’t get capture points. You may get others, but capturing you didn’t do.
Flying off alone as a Recon and capturing a beacon, only to lose it again 3 seconds later because you had no support? 300 points!
Staying next to the captain as Engineer and healing him for 800% of his total health, ensuring he lives and your team wins? 0 points!
Staying next to the captain as engineer and enjoying buff assist for every ship who tries to kill the captain! Hundred of free points!
Flying all the game in a recon, always looking at the minimap, warping and fighting against uneven odds to capture the beacons without support and losing ships in the way. 0 points!!
As you can see, we can keep saying the same things all the day. If you want to cap beacons, pick ECM and stasis bubble in range of the beacon. You will cap the beacon even under fire.
So you’re saying because there are many flaws in the reward system we shouldn’t fix any of them and just ignore it?
This is a flaw that is easily fixed. Moreover, it is a fix that encourages further focus on objectives - players who concern themselves only with their own score will have no excuse not to push in and, if nothing else, act as a bullet sponge until the beacon is captured. It also prevents “harassment” attacks - I’ve seen situations where pilots have continuously fired on me when they had no chance of landing a kill (and thus stopped me capping) in favour of shifting target to a ship they could kill. Other example - dropping a plasma web on a ship just before it enters capture range and then fleeing.
Remember that I am not saying you should be able to actively capture while taking damage; merely that the game acknowledges that you played a role in the capture by dint of your location.

No, I’m saying that there is no flaw. If you are not capping the beacon you should not get points for it. If you are in a flying brick, your task is to protect the interceptors who are capping the beacon. But that doesn’t mean to charge and die.
And by the way, firing at everyone around a beacon is a viable tactic to delay beacon capture. I had captured beacons being 1vs2, just because they were circling the beacon and I was resetting them all the time, while they didn’t reset me.

Yep, always good fun in a cov-ops (plasma web one, shoot the other). And you get double efficiency/synergy for killing enemies on a beacon, so if that guard goes in and pulsars three enemy interceptors into space debris he’ll get way more out of it than the recon just capping.
Well, you have to take point and make some action. Yesterday was a pretty heated battle, there is that map which is totally xxxx for Recon as both teams will gather around the central big asteroid and it will be a real 3D standoff, not much tactical in it. So captain rocks in an empire LRF, 3 engies constantly shitting repair and chargin stations, spamming engie drone heals just to keep him alive… and getting a crapton of assists (damage and buff as well). Was fun.
The point is: get your captain to move forward. Than you get points and excitement as well.

This make me remember about a game where I was the captain (quite standard these days…) and I was in a recon derping around and assisting or killing stuff, when a guy in the team, the self appointed “tactical visionary” started spamming “Protect the captain at all costs!”
My answer was, “The captain can protect itself, just stay close to me, kill stuff and don’t die”
