Are there more ship classes planned? Destroyer? Cruiser?

Hi, grats for release and pretty fun game so far. Just curious if there were any plans to include a fourth or even fifth larger class of ships.I would love for there to be some larger class ships to play, maybe something in the order of a destroyer being 3-4 times bigger than a frigate.

 

 

 

Right now the game is very much fighter, or fighteresque oriented, which is great if you are into zipping around  till you are nausiated and pass out from being dizzy.

 

Though for me, and others like me, we’d prefer gameplay with a ship that more includes broader calculated decisions of such slower and bigger playstyle ships, and it doesnt have to be included at the expense of the fighter/frigate style game play.

So you could imagine maybe a destroyer being some 3-4 times bigger than a frigate, and perhaps double to double and a half the times of shield and hull stats of a frigate.

 

It doesnt have to have a new class of powerful guns, you could simply use the ones allowed on current ships, and maybe give 1 or 2 more. Perhaps even the choice to use 2 different gun types for the loadout, so maybe it could be a jack of trades, and master of none, but it would allow it the ability to support many situations.

 

The way that they would be balanced, is that the bulk of the guns would be facing on the broadsides of the ship. This way, the bulk size of the ship would be a larger target if the ship wanted to bring all its guns to bear.

 

Being that it is a slower ship, this would mean that fighters wouldnt be obsolete, in that if they caught the attention of the destroyer when harassing the weakspots, they could simply outfly the destroyer in escape.

 

And also the fact that the 7-8 guns on the broadsides are stretched across a wide array could mean that small size of fighters and interceptors wouldn’t get capped off so fast due to poor dispersion at closer ranges on the destroyer, where the destroys guns would best be optimal for medium/long ranges.

 

Or the tradeoff being that if the destroyer opted for better close range performance, that could make it a slow moving vulnerable target to sniper fire.

I don’t quite agree. Aside from snipers, this game has a pretty fast game flow. What would be nice would be a dreadnought vs dreadnought pvp map with some player controlled dreadnought weapons. Adding dreads into random queues would be silly, they would get insta sniped, massively stunned and missiles to death, and once it respawns, what is the other team to do, spit at it?

No, games like eve have dreads for a reason, I don’t support bigger ships in Star Conflict unless they can did a really creative way to balance them in.

I’d rather see dreadnoughts put in to replace the captain in Combat reconnaissance.  With guided missiles and sniper lasers, you’re pretty much delegated to hiding behind a rock if you’re picked as captain.

Well, I used dread but destroyer/cruiser shares the same context. Frigates already provide a larger ship per-ce but going any bigger would slow the games pace down. Ergo, unless you can very effectively add them without making them hugely op(most likely) or into floating barges(just as likely) then don’t add them. I believe I got this point across in my earlier post but I guess not…

There is no classes planned for expansion beyond the release of Tier 5 ships, And the dreadnaught.

Personally, I like the way it is. The game is ment to be fast paced, and does so extremely well with the current classes of ships. As Zefirus mentioned however, the captain in captain’s mode should get a dreadnaught or something large and tanky.

That is the point I was trying to get across Stryker, the fast paced play would be ruined or dulled by introducing something big and bulky like that.

i actually think there is a way to do this, that will take very little time, or  scripting to make these changes.

 

the idea is to take out the tier system, an added benefit of this is an instant balancing effect.

 

then you turn tier ships into progressively larger ships

 

frigate -  currenty t1 frig

destroyer - currently t2 frigate

Cruiser - Currently t3 frigate

 

And from here you just increase stats as they go up, and recycle the models (At least tell you can make more later).

Maybe increase the mass of the ships slightly each level.

 

you do the same with fighters, and interceptor and categorize them

 

light ships

medium ships

heavy ships

 

a week of work you go from 3 ships each race, to 15.

I don’t know Uhmari, while I can see the pros of that, and I do agree the tier system definitely needs reworking, I don’t know if tierless size based system is the way to go.

Consider this, as the frigs get bigger, the inty’s faster and the fighters… Well who knows for the fighters… Are you not truly turning SC into world of tanks in space?

Believe you mis-read. I only meant for Captain’s mode, where only the captain would get a dreadnaught class ship. It’s gimmicky yes, but it would at least let the captain be more aggressive, as opposed to just hiding in a corner behind a rock.

This is not the objective of the game. in fact, the game is far beyond that now (For those of us who know the hidden things) the game is retaining some concepts from WoT but it is in no way WoT anymore.

 

Besides, the tier system in the universe is a really bad system (as shown to us in eve, and BP).

The fast paced wouldnt be going anywhere.

 

There’s a space for such a ship, and it’s not at the expense of other ship classes.

At least Destroyers or Cruisers for PVE would be awesome.

PvE destroyers, now that would be awesome.

And Stryker, my point at the beginning was simply that I believe bigger ships would slow the games flow down, the small ships would still be fast and mobile, but you would be giving more people the excuse to camp. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see it implemented, I just don’t know how a ice methods would benefit the game.

Uhmari, I did say the tier system needs to be changed, perhaps we will see the debs look into this earlier rather than later.

I just don’t know how above* methods would benefit the game.
