Another installment in the “make command fighters different from engy frigates” series. Simple enough idea, buff Command module effectiveness, but reduce the range.
Currently they have 4500m range for mk3 modules, which means a command fighter at the moment is quite well served by hiding behind a rock alongside his engineering buddy giving buffs at the same range as him.
Reduce the range of Command modules to, say, 2500m for mk3 modules and buff the effectiveness by quite a bit. This would accentuate the idea of a command fighter as a brawler who also gives buffs, rather than mid-range support that works suspiciously similarly to engineering frigs.
this seems like a good idea but i say also take away to 30 pt buff asist to so that they are forced to get kills
I used to be a frontline fighter, before some patch made it impossible.
I had my Empire T2R6 (Deimos 2) and I comfortably used a Command module (military +dmg to friendlies) and two Tackler modules (-shield resist, military -target speed) giving me high targeted DPS with damage buffs to friendlies. Now I can’t use any of that equipment, because I fly a gunship. I’m not sure how taking strategy out of the game was a good idea.

Or you could just buy a command ship or a tackler, then. Nobody removed those two classes from the game.
the issue is that the Deimos used to be a command ship and now it’s not and for him to get a command ship would require buying ships from another faction he may not be able to now.
The roles became more defined, which I like, but there was fallout for folks that had a certain setup that’s no longer possible. Even if command modules weren’t ‘as effective’ on non-command ships, you at least previously had the option to equip them.
