"Aether" Cannon

Hello! I had this idea come to me while playing last night, so I slept on it and here is the proposed stats for the “Aether” Cannon. 

All proposed stats are experimental.

I expect the Aether ball to look like our sun, because… it is a ball of thermal matter. Picture below.

Weapon Stats:

  •  Damage Type
    • Thermal
  • Projectile Type
    • Medium moving ball
  • Unqiue Effect
    • Targets hit receive thermal “melting” damage over time and the effect stacks but not more than 3.
      • Proposed 300/s damage lasting 4 seconds 
  • Damage/hit
    • 1250/1750
  • Rate Of Fire
    • 140/m
  • Projectile Speed
    • 1800 ms
  • Range
    • 3700m
  • Projectile pierces as it’s a hot ball of thermal matter
  • Spread
    • 0.2-1
  • Cooldown
    • 7/1.5

This module is proposed for DESTROYERS only because I feel all the dessy weapons are quite bad now in terms of 1v1.

Coilgun can’t get past static shield

Halo is too slow and still cannot get past a correctly placed static shield

G’thar’'du is too slow to be practical now. 

Meson has the most potential but you’d need a high DPS build to be able to damage the dessy past static shields.

+1 for new dessy weapons. But most likely this will either become a super freaking rare drop from a super freaking rare RANDOM container or it will be an R15 craftable for the Elly dessy.

I’m going to run a test to see if my Vigilant build is better with Halo or G’Thar’Du. I am about 99% sure that Halo is the winner hands down considering that I was using G’Thar’Du until about a weak ago and now use Halo with Photon, Heatsink and Engine Cooler and just the standard ammo (forget the name, 4% more damage one I think it is).

So, you basically want a thermal damage singularity cannon for destroyers?

Both Retar’du and Halo are very similar to that already and since Halo is a dedicated anti-dessie-weapon already, it should not be outperformed by this weapon.

Also: Retar’du meta favors high em resists and most dessies run repair drones. You can exploit that with Coilgun and Thermoreactive Weapon ![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/001j.png “:)”)

I personally would like to see more/better choices for ALL ships. With the missions of destroy 25 ships with kinetic/thermal/em then you are forced to use it even if you don’t like it. I like em weapons mostly but would love to see some good choices for thermal and kinetic. Hell, even if they are the same weapon just different damage type.

 

Maybe make suggestion for weapon that makes the damage type certain type based on the ammo you use? <---- Yes/No

What about having two types of ammunition, one for another damage type, and you can switch between them during battle? I really wish someone had thought of this idea before…

Good idea! I proposed something like it long ago : switching damage type and switching range effectiveness during battle .

I searched to see if it was a thing already and didn’t find anything and made the suggestion prior to reading this but maybe its different.  ![:dntknw:](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/dntknw.gif “:dntknw:”)

The problem is the static shield, should be removed.

This would inderectly nerf jerry dessies, since one of their advantages is to run static shields without loosing all regenerational abilities.

I would prefer a change of mechanics for static shields. Instead of blocking damage, they could fortify the shield’s resistances in a certain direction.

Welp, its settled thx for [@ORCA1911](< base_url >/index.php?/profile/254263-orca1911/) help. We tested exact same Vigilant build and Halo is one of the worst. G’Thar’Du is literally twice the damage done as Halo. (This was tested with Static Barriers)

Not sure if i would like a feature like that…specially in an empire dessie. But static shields certainly need to be modified. Makes 1vs1 in destroyers really stalled and OP in certain situations (like non piercing dmg: pretty much reduces all dmg from meson, smaller weapons cant even reach that dps). I think i would rather shields with less durability or longer CD, but with reduced energy cost.

 Reduced energy cost and reduced overall stats would be OK. Though it should be changed to “tactical shield”.

 

 Example change:

 Energy cost: 100p

 Recharge: 2s

 Durability: 7,000p

 Duration: 5s

Why?

That’s a lot of bringing the barrier back up in a battle which can be a lot as it.

 

In an ideal battle, destroyers should NOT be vs another destroyer. They are suppressor ONLY and its usually suicide anyway. Trust me, destroyers dying left and right trying to take out my Vigilant and its laughable that they even try especially when Brokk is in the hands of more players now. It’s a waste of good battle time for dessie vs dessie in my opinion (in most cases).

First, make good weapons and secondary weapons to make standard ships able to fight with them…

how about using catridges like missiles or remote minelayer? You start with a fixed amount of shields ready for deploying (with short cooldown, as it is now). Once you deploy a shield, theres a countdown timer to recharge it (kinda long…like 20 secs per shield?)…yeah, just like remote minelayer, although you recharge one shield per time instead of all (how minelayer used to be).

Or just replace it for missiles and mines (heavy version) like the other ships, i think it’s more harmonic.
