4 ship slots: new options for more strategic and diverse gameplay

We got 4 ship slots. We can select only 4 ships, but not more.

My suggestion would expand each standard ship slot, making an additional sub-slot for each standard slot. We could have 1, 2, 3, or even 4 sub-slots, etc.

Due to dilemma with implants, I would add one restriction. You can only put a secondary ships of the same class and role in the same sub-slot.

Ship class or role should stack with your regular ship class or role.

Interface would be easy to expand. it would only open, if the player choose to do so.

This feature, if it would be implemented, would be only optional.

 

Example: (current system)

Ship slot 1: Saw One

Ship slot 2: Jaguar

Ship slot 3: Mjolnir

Ship slot 4: Octopus

 

New suggested system: (this example is made for only 1 sub-slot, which means a total of 2 ships for each standard ship slot)

Ship slot 1: Saw One, Aura

Ship slot 2: Jaguar, Lion Mark II

Ship slot 3: Mjolnir, Spark

Ship slot 4: Octopus, Naga

 

This suggestion carries a lot of potential. Not every ship class or role is the same.

Maybe your second ship has a different weapon, which also changes your tactics or approach towards the enemy team, etc.

There would be no changes to any game modes at all. You can still use just one ship or disregard this feature.

If you lose your ship in Capture the Beacons mode, you would automatically disable the whole sub-category for your secondary ships as well.

I would love to see this, but if they were restricted to the same roll/rank I would seldom use them.

I’d suggest that instead of adding ship “folders” to each combat slot, that you just suggest that there be more slots added in general.

The suggestion seems rather redundant.

4 ships are enough imo since you can equip them as varied as you want to (specially for capture the beacons mode due to the respawn mechanic). If you want to diversify in a specific role, take a 2nd slot for that role and fit it as you wish (like macoff used to fit 2 ELRFs).

EDIT: ive seen many times players bringing 2 or 3 engineers in their combat slots at leagues/tourney.

Players should have the option to decide for themselves.

Nothing is preventing you from using your preferred options.

It’s a good idea for experienced pilots, but it can be at the same time a bad decission from devs for beginners pilots. Because someone with better knowledge from the game can equip better ship builds, but someone with no knowledge it will put random ship builds.

It can work, from my point of view, for latter ranks or for leagues. 

4 slots create enough possibilities, and such capabilities achieved via measured sacrifices and strict choice of what you can bring. Since close beta direction of the game was to create such game interactions, where you haev to balance your builds, make you think how to sunergise your 4 ships to be as effective in any situation as possible, unlocking this and allowing for 8/12/16/w.e means that you no longer even have to care about such sacrifices, you’ll just bring all possible specialisation builds. In return this actually reduces the fun of the game, because instead of having to overcome sertain downsides of current equiped build, you’ll just self destruct and change to something else. 

Boring.

When some people don’t even use more than one slot and fit only a useless jeri guard or some long range… I’d say there were more pressing problems, like forcing people to have at least 3 ships in hangar (with modules on), or some way or encouraging people to bring one of each class or something to improve diversity.

Also most players don’t even use those 4 slots so why add feature for few players which can afford 8 fully equipped ships - it would put new players in big disadvantage going e.g. to first T5 battle and facing highly specialized full mk4/5 vets prepared for anything thanks to that ship variety in line up.

Too slow in most gamemodes. And LRFs sit on the spawn

I don’t see this adding any good to the game. And it would not solve the problem of the one ship players in high rank battles.

Okay before I vote no to this I ask:
Does this remove the possibility to have only 1 ship in your layout?
And how is this balanced that you NEED to choose wiseley WHAT you equip(max 4 ships available is pretty good limiter for PvP aspect), especially considering CtB mode?

Matchmaking system is depend on ships, equiped by the pilot. This extension is impossible at the moment, due to this technical reasons.

Here, this one is different.

Since “CTB” more has been removed form Random PvP, people with 1 ship is not really an issue, you can not force people to learn roles he does not want to learn, he maybe there to only play an Egineer or something.
