since that outdated thread, Match Making went through at least 2 iterations, that was nowhere mentioned, it looks like devs keep experimenting with MM settings, changing here and there to see what comes out of it, for example last iteration was so that you could have a 4 man squad in R9 ships and be still locked in T3 and there were no mandatory 3-4 man squad on a enemy team
4-man squad locked tier, but enemy side should have like 6 people in squad, could be 3 squads of 2 players, or 1 4-man and 1 2-man IF this 2 squads have lower SR than the first 4-man, or another 4-man squad with same average SR.
They should stop messing with the MM. What is the point of 2man vs 4man squad? Looks like the Devs had watered down vodka.
I could also ask what’s the point of solo vs kill squad? Or rather, why should squads get extra preferential treatment on top of their existing advantage?
Personally, if they want to test it, fine. But at least tell us what they changed would be a nice thing to do.
It’s not like I like it, but telling people what they change would maybe make them stop from queuing with X amount of people or in X tiers, you know, and the tests couldn’t be possible. Just a though.

Well, but the problem is, no test would be viable at all, because the moment ppl started to realize that playing rank 9’s put you against killsquads and/or T4/T5 ships they STOP playing R9’s and go back to R8’s, and T4’s are even more empy (judging by the graphic queue).

That is what I have been told and noticed since I got to R9. R9 standard ship puts you up with R11. I saw this also last weekend, as soon as I put only one R9 standard in my fleet slots I got moved 2 queues higher from R 7-9 to R9-11 .
It is extremely irritating to see that the devs finnaly got the hang of it, and put a decent MM in place, but then, 2 weeks later or so, they broke everything again…
The dev team seems to give one step forward, and three backwards.

Decent MM for who? For the deathsquads like us squadding with R9 ships in 4 men teams or for the poor solo players that had to deal with them? I mean, for me was perfect since I only play with the pack, but for the solo players it was not good.

Although i don’t find squads any less effective without standard R9. Styx and wolf-m were pretty cool to have in squad but nukem and valor do just fine

It doesn’t change much
I had so much fun with Wolf M, Prom X, Katana S and Styx and I will miss it, honestly, but not everyone can (or like) play a Valor and have the same effectiveness as a Styx.

I agree with you, theres no real diference in effectivity using R9’s or R8’s, the problem is, that now, the deathsquads (that residente has quoted) instead of flying R9’s they will fly with premium R9’s, which as as powerfull as, or even more powerfull than the normal R9’s, and for the solo player it would continue the same, except now again, noone will play R9’s.
I for one, if i want to level my R9’s, im forced to play alone, which is boring. So basically, what im saying, if we can crush people with my nukem in a squad with other nukems why dont allow the same MM queue as a squad flying Wolf-M’s?
They made so many changes to MM in the past 3months I just hope with the flexible logic they are working on makes it better.
It is very challenging at low population times for MM to serve squads and all the solo players a match and trying to make the teams balanced/fair with the information MM can use.
SR (aka DSR) only indicates Kill/Death rating and not necessarily real skill or contribution to win the match. While killing helps the team if it contributes in preventing the other team to achieve the objective it is only one piece used by MM and as mentioned only limited usefulness.
I’m seen in T3 matches players ranging from SR below 900 to 1700+ in the same match which makes it difficult for MM and the teams.
It would in my opinion helpful to add a parameter like average efficiency or efficiency rating (from PVP only) to teh pilot stats and be used by MM.
I guess we have to go through the pain on having MM in a good and bad mood from time to time until the release the game and hopefully settled with a MM mechanic that works most of the time.
Here is how the MM works, ill use a WPK squad as an example (when i queue solo and end up against them HEHHEHEH)
My team:
Me (SR around 1400 (leveling ships cause deaths))
A 3 man squad or 2, 2man squad with average SR of 1200.
Fill the blanks with ppl from 800-1250.
Enemy Team:
WPK or ESB squad with average SR of 1600.
3 or 4 Very skilled 1500-1850 SR pilots
Fill the blanks with 1300+.
Thats what matchmaking currently is doing. Thats not even mentioning the guys on my team that brings 1 T3 ship, and 2 Tier 2, and they ONLY fly the tier 2.
Don’t even start asking for match-making based on DSR, wait times are long enough as it stands and you see the same players every battle anyway because there are so few of them.

Im not saying to wait for people so they can balance the DSR on both teams, just that the moment the MM gets 24 players for example, instead of putting all high DSR on one side, to mix them and distribute balancedly. OFC it would not be perfect, but it would be much better than the current flawed mechanic. There are games that no matter what you do, you lose, why? because one side has 5 900 rating people flying LRF and doing nothing.
