I ask me from time to time why it gives 2 different Long Range classes but from all other classes it gives no difference.
I mean all ships have the same Items and the same special Module so that it gives no big difference from the factions.
The onliests exeption here are the Long Range ships from Jericho and the Empire.
Jericho has the guided Torpedo and the Empire has the Disintegrator and now i ask me why is that so?
One way to explain this is to bring at least 1 class which have an difference in the special module… but here it starts to give already problems. The Jericho Torpedo is much more to avoid or also to “kill” via Missile Defence System then an Disintegrator if an well trained Pilot uses the Empire Long Range. Another Problem is that for the Disintegrator the Tachyon Charge is an totaly useless item cause it needs from launch to Impact around 1 Second. Only the Guided Torpedo get a use from the Charge cause it flies then faster and reaches faster the target.
So i prefer find 1 Special module for both Long range ships or bring another active item which also brings advantage for the Disintegrator then just the Weapon Overcharge…
its a legacy thing. In the begining each faction only had one special module for each ship weight (int, fighter, frig). Jericho Frigates all hade guided torpedo, empire all had disentigraters, and fed all had drones. There were also subfation varients (for example tech subfaction guided torpedo had a biger radius, and raids had i think a longer range).
So I guess when they decided to do the class thing they decided that instead of geting rid of guided torp or disentigrator that they would just have both be LRF.
