Which class of fighter?

Hi all, new ish to the game and am trying to figure which fighter tree line to go down. Kinda doing a mixture still playing around T1 at the moment and ready to go into Tier 2. I am looking for a tanking role which does fair DPS of course. I am mostly stuck betweens Jerichos Command ships which have good shields and the shield diffusion module and Empires Gunships which has higher hull.

My native faction is Empire although I have changed contracts a between Jericho and Empire.

Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks,

The gunships are more hit&run than tank, they got some tank for sure, but not a lot.

Gunships do a lot of DPS though.

Thats helpful thanks. I tend to stay in the fight and like to use modules etc to take some beating while dishing out DPS. Dog fight I guess.

try to fly a CO, if you can aim well, you can dish out a lot of damage in a short period of time.

Thanks for your reply, CO as in Covert Ops Interceptor? They strike me as not being able to take much damage at all. Although I am open to trying anything I am not sure that would fit the bill. Will add it to try though with thanks.

Jericho Tacklers. That is all.

Thanks, I like the look of there stats but its a shame they don’t run all the way through the Jericho tree. If I choose a main line of ship to go down should I also change to that faction? Currently Empire. Appreciate everyones help.

Covert Ops do a lot of DPS in a short time, but they do have few HP, so gotta be careful.

They are a lot of fun to fly though, since you can kill people in mere seconds.

Here’s a piece of advice. Fly every kind of ship up to R6. Get full Synergy on them all, fly some more. THEN decide which ones you like to fly and continue progressing with those.

I do think that is the best idea, main reason for trying to have a think about things now is in order to get on the right track for sub faction contracts. Making sure I am progressing in the correct sub faction for the ship which is best suited to me. Thanks.

In the end you need them all maxed anyway ;)

I did all to 3, then all to 6, then all to 9, then all to 12, and now busy with all to 15.

I have seen others get 1 to 15 first while others remained low(1-6).

It all depends on your preference.

Edit: And having a wide variety of ships is always good, since nerfs/buffs/game changes will make some classes horrible or very fun to fly.

Actually, Don’t fly CO, thats my territory. The less people that fly it, the better it is for me.

I’d like to throw in here that ship quality can vary a lot by tier. For example, I love Recon Interceptors, but they are lousy in T1 because A) they have to use plasma guns, and B) they can’t get access to cloak. In T2 and T3 Recons really shine. Can’t say how they do in T4 and T5 yet because I’ve not got there.

If you are only just starting out (ie: in Tier 1) then it’s worth trying everything and seeing what jumps out at you, then focusing on those in Tier 2. That said, flying everything is not only a lot of fun, but it can produce some unexpected gems.

You learn to fight other classes by learning those classes from inside

My IMHO on a topic:

T2:

  • I feel like Deimos 2(or prem Kalah) (Empire gunship r6) is the ship that can produce the most impact on the game single handedly if played well and capable of producing significant impact for your team to win that game.

  • Tacklers are fun

  • I find Commands not as useful in T2 as they are in T3, they don’t have enough module slots and accessible equipment to build them in order to reach efficiency of tacklers and gunships.

T3

  • I love Wolf M (Federation gunship), my favorite fighter and i do have them all (except for Jerichos tacklers)

  • Tacklers in T3 are probably least efficient fighters

  • Commands are starting taking off with much better builds

This is all helpful thanks, I am assuming its also best to do all factions contracts to give greatest selection of implants?

Contracts unlock blue gear for your ships. To unlock the implants, you need to buy ships.

Gotcha, so another benefit to playing different factions ships etc. Makes sense. Where do I find which factions contracts unlock what kit. Thanks all, very helpful.

I don’t think there is a table anywhere yet showing gear per sub faction, you have to go in game in to Warehouse tab, filter by Tier, then mk3, then select module category and hover your mouse over small icon next to module name (thats if you don’t remember those icons by heart yet) and see what sub faction is required.

There used to be a way to see that on the ship tree help screen. You’d click on the ranks and the view would open to something like unlockables at that rank. Not anymore, though, you have to hover over the red icons on the equipment to know which faction can unlock them.
