In PvE there are 2-3 missions/stages that are pretty good in an interceptor, like a Fort Muerto, but for the most part Frigs are simply superior due to them havings tons of regen and continious mid-long range dmg output (and aoe)
In coop inties are a waste of slot, you are much better of with something that can kill bots fast and reliably, which is basically an another form of a PvE.
In OS inties could gank, but with how pretty much all the sectors are safe, there is no point in that either. Well spectre falcon recon aint bad for some farming.
In a PvP interceptors (aka not Taikin) simply dont fit well into a current metagame. It all noticably started with Adaptives nerf (no hull resists) + implant 8-2 nerf + tacklers buff, and diminishing continue with gauss buff, Desstroyer, thargas, guards buff, another tackler buff, dessies red turret buff, and lately with AOE missiles buff.
All of these changes directly affect a viability of a close ranged builds, which most of interceptors are, and in bigger games close range fighters are sply not worth it, since you can easily and reliably out dmg from midrange and survive.
The only ships that are effectively capable of close ranga are Tharga and a Taikin, well and a fed guard but not in the same sence.
Majority of players are incapable of keeping up with how fast star conflicts close range brawls is and tend to prefer a slower paced gameplay, hence why there are still many complains about “broken alien ships”.
Even though Tharga is about as good as any gunship should be and it is not a tharga that is broken, its most of other gunships being to weak for the meta.
Imho Taikin still need some tuning, especialy in CD department for some of its modules, but rather than that it is about right.
