I couldnt give a damn about skill rating. Ive never gotten above 1400, yet i fly with 1600 rating tillowaty and can nearly equal him at times.(just dont make me fly ceptors)
It can also depend on what you fly. Interceptors have beacon capture advantage, but that capture will not help your SR rating at all. The beacon capture advantage is to make up for the lower survivability of interceptors. It is a conspiracy!!!
I met that guy in game yesterday ! Hes a hell of a pilot, we fought a couple of battles against each other and then decided to make a squad. Since no one else from WPK was online, I played with him about 25 games.

And I only take Gunship in case I have heavy frigball in the enemy team or good squads
