What Does "Optimal Firing Range" Mean?

Sorry for all the thread spam by me, but, I’ve got questions…so deal with it. ![:p](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/004.png “:p”)

Anyways, what does Optimal Firing Range mean? Accuracy I’m assuming?

For NOT explosive weapons

Optimal range = 0.7 * max range

For explosive weapons

Optimal range = max range

You will notice that optimal range (the math that kosty put up above) is where a weapon will deal its maximum damage that is listed in the weapon info.

Try it out with some Beam cannons or Ions. Fire at max range on a ship in open space and it will do minimal damage. But approach it and the damage per tick will increase up to its maximum.

Thank you!

non explosive kinetic weaponry (like coilgun/railgun/MD) has almost same max range than optimal range (dmg decreases drastically in the last few meters)
