Unable to log in. "Unable to perform operation: Unable to connect to server"

Hi guys, just downloaded this to play with a friend and I can’t log in. I get the error in the title.

If I launch from Steam, I only have the option to log in with steam account, I click login, and above error message.

If I launch from the game directory I can put in a user name and password, but again when I click login, I get the same error.

Obviously this is an issue:

open your last game.log and try to ping the server in this log record:

server might be different. In the example above its 91.230.61.100

it should be pinged ok. If not, dig your network equipment, including your router

try the following

close out all internet explorers etc

start > run> type Cmd

type > netsh winsock reset

restart computer

I have a problem with this “solution”.

_ Note that resetting the Winsock using netsh winsock reset catalog command in SP2 removes all the third-party LSPs and restores Winsock to factory default setting. Existing programs that uses their own LSPs need to be reinstalled again. _

I have no idea what this means for my current system configuration, and am extremely unwilling to just do this without knowing what it will affect. I’m certainly not interested in having to reinstall my entire connected program base, for the sake of getting this game to work.

Is there something I can do that won’t potentially break the rest of my applications?

Additional update as I’ve done a bunch of reading and testing: I _ DO _have custom LSPs because my motherboard has a bigfoot network adapter, and it’s there in the catalog, so doing a winsock reset may in fact break my network access completely. Not ideal.

If in doubt, backup your systemfirst by the inernal windows means

Then if something wrong, your can roll back to original state.

I need to work out whether I care enough to risk causing myself problems (regardless of whether I have a backup).

its actually a common solution for your problem.

If you search forum by the keywords “winsock reset”, you’ll find out you are not alone with this error

Yes I am aware. I am less inclined to execute commands without understanding their impact, unlike others here who may not have cared. I’d also point out that there are a wide array of computer configurations and hardware, and just because this worked for someone else without issue, doesn’t mean it will do so for me.

As above, I’ll think about it. If I go ahead I’ll post the results, otherwise if I don’t reply I’ll have decided that uninstalling and forgetting about this game is the better option.

Looks like you have an issue with Bigfoot Networks in general. May I suggest fixing this, given it is a large provider of gaming network devices, instead of advising winsock resets?

UPDATE:

I created a restore point and did the winsock reset. The game immediately worked, I played the tutorial!

I rebooted, reinstalled my LSPs when I was prompted by windows, and now I have the same issue again. However, reset winsock every time I want to play is not an okay solution.

Considering this bigfoot network adapter problem is clearly known to you guys, do you think you could work on fixing it?

Unfortunately, no. We cant dig a third-party network layer the game uses. It just too expencive for us. Sorry

According to that other post I linked, the game used to work on Bigfoot, so I wouldn’t have thought it was going to be that big an issue to work out where the problem was. Oh well at least this is an honest and clear answer! Thanks for your help.
