Top Guns: Beam Cannon

Pilots! We continue introducing you to standard weapon types of our combat ships. In many ways, precisely because of the large selection of weapons we were able to successfully resist the alien invasion. Today we are going to tell you about the Beam Cannon. ![a8aac61276f61e21559f324d7196.jpg](http://img.targem.ru/images/a8aac61276f61e21559f324d7196.jpg)

Beam Cannon is a succinct name for a device, using a directional focused radiation beam, burning everything in its path. At the heart of its design is a gas laser of continuous action with optical excitation. Beam Cannon is one of the oldest weapon types, but it has not lost its effectiveness over time.

This oldest, along with Assault Railgun, type of weapon was developed a couple of thousand years ago. One of its major drawbacks is the large size and the requirement of additional space for a powerful energy source. It’s impossible to put Beam Cannons on ships smaller than a frigate. But the possibility of precise hull burning and dealing direct damage to the inner structure of an enemy ship allows frigates to quickly suppress the enemy combat forces.

Despite its age, Beam Cannon is still a serious argument in the arsenal of Imperial military forces. For those who like to combine precision and accuracy with dashing strokes across enemy groups, Beam Cannon is the best choice.

UMC reminds that sketches in HD of Star Conflict weapons are always available for viewing and downloading in Artworks section on our Website.

Since thar ga is out, I’ve seen only one player using beam canon.  ![:dntknw:](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/dntknw.gif “:dntknw:”)

Beam canon is a great weapon on paper. In reality many have ping problems (so do I) so one can’t keep the aim on the enemy - its just not “there”. On the other hand Tharkt and Positron carry heavy punch, can be timed when the enemy takes turn and do not reveal shooters’ location. so its 3:0. (gauss is a great weapon too but its punch is much weaker)

While everything else seemed to blow up instantly, my Beam Cannon + Energy Converter setup for Patriarch could actually beat Milf’s Thar’Ga in 1v1 situation. (…and then he just zips away to self repair, and rest of his team swoops in to finish me off. Oh well.)

And yes, I do have 3 sets of highest rank Beam Cannons upgraded to mark 5.

I like using the beam canon on lrf with a crit build it’s like a death beam it’s actually pretty fun you guys should give it a try ![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/001j.png “:)”)

I used to, like many other. But now it has 5% crit chance and 50% dmg and even on a lrf with 6 guns still less damage than guard destructor. But then, i made a troll build with curved lense, crit build crew, and 2 crit cpu (dmg and chance%), 1 horizon, fire rate implant and iridium sink x2 modifier and when able to. pulse discharger thrown in there. Can be pretty fun to see those dude that weren’t expecting a thing like that, coming at you to then see them go crazy trying to get out of range.

Though, as said. It is a troll build good at one thing only. Close range defense, I like testing and coming out with weird, effective build. It messes with the pro’s brain. The unexpected create confusion. Most are used to the meta and when going out of those boundaries, they become wacky wacky.

But that’s something you can do with everything right ?

Before 0.9 patch you could fit even Heavy Laser with slow barrel on inty ![](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/crazy.png “”)

The “onliest problem” i have with the laser is that you really need to aim at the exact place where the ship is. And the smaller the ship becomes the harder it gets to hit it. But even for larger ship this problem counts and i even use max zoom in to aim precicely but in the moment you are off for 1 or 2 pixels the laser already “misses” the target.

What i would have liked on this weapon would be an “semi-targeting” that hit´s the ship if it´s inside of the little aim reticle helper with the drawback of reducing the strength for a bit to make it not to strong. In PvE the lasers serve an good job while in PvP you really need to be skilled to hit the enemy with it.

Yes. What about it?

That would have been nice. It has been proposed a few times.

Projectiles have spread but much much higher Rate of Fire and just gotta mouse over that reticle to get 3 hit in a secondes. Or 1 big hit that hurt bad.

You can’t bring back dead features just by saying “this weapon is good”.

It isn’t. At least not for the greater majority of players.

The whole “top five guns” thing is false and probably derived from whatever “statistics” that your servers throw at you. Just a means to try to get players to use them again temporarily.

Though on topic of the actual weapon, I find it great for use in engie-hunting with a crit Mauler. It can easily have over 200% damage increase with relatively high chance.

It probably has such a high usage and success because it’s the only frigate weapon even available at low ranks? :U

Agreed. Same for plasma gun and assault railgun.
