So I undocked from the station, saw someone criminally flagged, killing all the guard NPCs. Being the law-abiding citizen that I am (*cough*), I turned off station protection and blew him up, then turned station protection back on. The UI told me that station protection was active. The guy that I killed undocked again with a new ship, flew up to me and nearly blew me up since I didn’t expect to take any damage.

Unfortunately the logs do not show the station protection toggle. When I have the time I’ll try to see if it’s reproducible and get a video maybe.
I can say now that i have done that too if you turn it off and on it would’t station protect you at all, against players that is until you get out of that sector and back in

i would find it more adequate anyway if the toggle cannot happen on the fly. i mean toggling back to protection. but of course it should not tell you so in the hud, if it isn’t really the case, so definitely a bug. +1
