I seem to remember this topic getting beaten to death before, but now that I’m officially Rank 15 with Federation, it’s a bit more of a concern for me now than it was then.
With this weekend’s sale on T4 and 5 ships, I finally bought the Lion Mk 2. I gleefully equipped it and took both it, and my Lion into some PvP. My plan was to earn a scant 200K credits to re-purchase the Tiger Mk 2 while it was on sale for 2,700,000.
Two very painful matches later (2v2, no bots), I realized with horror that I wasn’t making any money. I was actually losing money because of how expensive repairs to the Lion and the Mk 2 were. I have the Captain’s Cut bonus (10% credit income), the Gladius III implant (5% credit income), and a 3 day license from reaching Rank 15 (50% credit income).
So with a whopping +65% bonus to my credit income, the combined repair costs from two Tier 5 ships was enough to swallow all of that and then some. So what happens when the license expires and I’m left with a measly +15% bonus?
At this rate, I won’t be able to afford to fly my best ships and enjoy them, because they will be eating a hole in my funds once the license runs out.
There are those of you who are reading the above and are bound to say, “Well don’t die, stupid!” That’s not as easy as it sounds when you are flying a no-synergy Tier 5 ship in a 2v2 match where there is only you and your teammate for the enemy to shoot at.
P.S. I don’t know what is up with the matchmaker, but since I hit Rank 15, I have had nothing but 2v2 matches with no bots. I even took out the Tier 5 ships and replaced them with Tier 4. Still got a 2v2 with no bots.
Working as intended. Tier 4 and tier 5 are designed to have negative income without premium so you have to either play in low tiers, buy a premium ship or buy license.
This has been this way all the time, and any other similar F2P game have the same issues.
Fortunately for you, in this game you can play only tier 5 IF you do PvE, so you don’t need to go lower tiers to get some credits.
And that is the main reason I’m playing randoms with premiums and SQ with credit ships. The first ones are for farming, the second ones for peak performance.
I don’t got premium, and I still gain quite a bit of credits in T4-5 pvp. And my skill rating is around 1500.
it depends on the times you die, and the ships you use (because of ammo)
If you get a fear me medal, you won’t have repair costs, so your income will be great. But on average, people are meant to lose money on tier 5 without premium if you consider a standard K/D ratio of 1-1.
Has your skill rating gone over 1300? If so, welcome to the other t4/5 queue…
Ah, I don’t think so? I’m not that good. Last time I checked I was around 1250-ish.

So the cake is a lie. All the hype about getting Tier 5 ships, being able to use all the implants, finally being at the top, was pointless. Because now I can’t even afford to fly the stupid things unless I save up enough credits with several lower-tier matches? And the developers wonder WHY they have to mix Tier 4 and 5 to get a full match?
PvE. I would laugh, if I wasn’t about to cry from that suggestion. I’ve heard the horror stories of T5 PvE. I’m not about to subject myself to that nightmare. It’s not worth it for one lousy purple loot spot a day.

To be fair, I did lose one match and draw in another. But when you get back to hangar and you see the dialog box announce that it took 133,000 credits to repair your ships + another 9,000 to rearm them, and your total profit between the two games was somewhere around 50,000…
It’s enough to make a player wish he had stayed in Tier 3.

Repair costs for me down in T4 are around 60k for a ship that’s been blown up 4+ times. I’m not entirely certain how awful the repair cost is for rank 15, but still…
The game is very pay to win in some ways. Examples? you can get credits and synergy with standards. you can purple out weapons with standards. i wouldn’t be surprised if soon, they put something out where you could boost your stats with standards.

Please tell me how upgrading to blues or purples with standards is pay to win? according to my experience, you can upgrade those with ingame credits.
You guys are always bringing the “pay to win” pitchforks for any reasons, but still don’t know what pay to win is.
Pay to win means that you can buy access to some feature that non paying users cannot access and that gives you an advantage in the game.
Buying stuff with GS only saves you time and resources. But anyone can get those modules just playing.
In fact I have never used GS to buy synergy, credits or modules. Just for licenses and some premium ships.
And inb4, premium ships are not better than credit ships. In fact most of them are slightly worse. But they are repair free and have bonus income, which is good for farming.
