First of all, people, stop replying within quotes, it is annoying to reply to those after.
Really? Assist whoring bonus? Did you forget that Valyrie System and Gravi-scanner also exist? The fact that you can give a damage and speed bonus to almost the whole map is indeed something good, way better than 10% Speed. If the bonus was Rotation or Strafe I would consider changing the ship. As you said this is good in premade Teams or even Tournaments (ask iBalrog and his Gauss Flamberge about it), but it is still also good for any game since most of the players I see are using Green auras. The extra speed on Prom X is good, but I would change it for Prometheus’ or Strong’s Command bonus.
Yes, really, you could potentially give gravi or valk to the whole map, but in fact in most of the cases you or anyone else won’t, meaning that the timing you give a bonus in majority of cases will be based on your close surroundings, for yourself or those right next to you, and whoever on the other side of the map most likely will waste that bonus because there is no need for it at this exact moment. Sure when you are in a squad and there is a voice call for a gravi/valk, but chances are you will be next to your squad over there anyway, where promx aura range is enough. And for the tournament standpoint 2x Prometheus X > Prometheus+DE/Nukem (considering teams are 8+)
- Gigas 2
I fly Armadillo on R9 Imperial ships so for me Gigas II is a must have. Nothing else to add tho.
I fly Armadillo since i first entered T3 (since 0.8.x and i was actively promoting usage of it all over forums back then and only couple patches ago people started to realise how good it was) i fly T3 and i fly Sec Con, obviously average skill level of our opponents is lower than in EU Sec Con prime times, but it doesn’t change basics.
Again, it is only “must” on frigates, there is nothing wrong with having it carrying over to fighters when you have it for frigs, but most of the times using it specifically for fighters is very inefficient.
- Energy
It is indeed non existent, but it can still tank a whole Torpedo, Guided Torpedo, Desintegrator and even an Octopus just having an Engineer to you.
Prometheus Capacitor can withstand 4800 dmg hit(when at full and with 1 active aura+some AB/modules will keep it in around 60-70% (if no engineer)), so realistically you are looking at 3000-3500 dmg absorption and your Bubble is gone (engineers provides regen of that shield, but if dmg is exceeding what it can take it is shut off, so in fact Energy Aura hardly does anything good for Prometheus Diffusion Shield tank), it is extremely easy to overcome Prometheus Diff Shield, so yeah it is only there to absorb a missile. While PromX with a use of Shield module and nothing else is already at 1140 cap volume (9000 dmg in a single hit to turn off Diff Shield)
- Hull tanking
How does that speed make you dodge and avoid more? I find strafe and rotation way more useful to dodge than raw speed on an Empire Fighter. It also depends on the weapons you’re using. If you’re using a Gauss Command I would go for rotation just to compensate Galvanized Armor.
While not necessary dodge, 17% speed (and that counting that you have verniers on both ships) will make you be mobile enough to be in the right time in the right place more often than a slowpoke prometheus, so you can avoid taking dmg all together or break from Line of fire or reposition faster, i.e. taking xxxx tons less dmg.
I don’t see how Prom X is better at fulfilling DPS role than Gunships or other Commands unless you put 2-3 Dischargers
NASA hacks
I yet have to see one of those players. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone using Gauss Cannon on a Prometheus (oh yes I do, in a very old video from rakza, where NeoCodex was using that ship, and doing good, obviously). Actually I’ve seen tons of Gauss Prom X doing what you said. The extra range will not make you farm much more assist with Prom that with Prom X since with the new assist system is stupidly easy to get tons of assists each game.
PromX Gauss is equally ineffective as on Prometheus (comparing to other available choices for Gauss turrets) (unless you are in a terrible team, like in Snibs example, and you are the only one doing xxxx, but then again it doesn’t matter what ship you were on, wouldve ended up with same results after all)
I use Prom over Prom X for the queue number
to make sure my whole 4 men squad has always speed and damage boost whenever they’re on the map.
-Using certain ships for MM rank doesnt make it better powerwise(since argument was Prom vs PromX)

From [this tool](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/21314-snibs-star-conflict-log-analyzer/), although the output on the previous page is from a development version.

Hmm what? I thought it was a rather excellent team actually. Most everyone was doing their job and we won because of it. My job just happened to be to stone wall the enemy advance and bind their forces, but that doesn’t mean that the guys catching the enemy trying to sneak a bomb 15k below the map or the ones blowing up the enemy stations but not doing a lot of damage were any less crucial to the success.
I don’t think I could have done my job quite as well with a different gun but be that as it may, the point was that the Gauss allows you to deal some serious damage and is hardly an ineffective weapons choice.
Imo, the best gauss turret is a tackler with the module range bonus, as you can tackle at max optimal of gauss for a kill without mk3/4 gear. And with mk4… I could put horizons on it and still tackle at optimal.

Even tacklers without the range bonus can make use of gauss very effectively. Target Painter has a range of 3.1k at MK4, which is somewhere close to the optimal range of gauss.
