this is a game I just had while leveling new ship line. Horribly imbalanced

is this an accurate representation of pvp at the moment? I’m beginning to believe it is so I will structure the post to that belief.

first, their only destroyer player disconnects right off the bat, this results in them having no counter for our destroyer and as you can see, they are getting farmed already.

then a second disconnect moments before their captain could have used his help.

The final result.  This left a bad taste in my mouth and is not the kind of balanced, competitive play I originally started playing for. Every game thus far in my new ship has been a blowout one way or another and while I do not want to blame destroyers because there are many elements here at play.

but his seems to be a trend with every game so far at rank 11. This has a very heavy world of tanks-esque vibe where every game is a blowout and skill means very little because balance is too skewed.

Still far better then some games. Here it’s mostly because of the disconnected players. 

 

I joined a capture the beacon late. Final score? 979 to 0, because I made 2 kills. 

That’s what I like to call balance. 

Why only block out the names on one side? XD

It looks like a normal combat recon match to me. The disconnects are what messed it up, I wouldn’t blame bad balance. Unless those people DCed because they were being spawn killed, but I dunno it seems they still get kills.

i don’t want to reveal the names of the people who disconnected because I don’t want them to potentially get punished for possible network issues, and i don’t want it to come off as name and shame.

We need some kind of defense against spawn kill. The invulnerability is far from enough, because we still die before our entire team respawn. 

 

Something like an invulnerability bubble that last fovever,  with a range of 3km where you can’t take damage but can deal damage to enemies

Of course the bubble is visible to everyone (like tacklers slowing missiles), and all your team spawn inside. 

But, “because physics” the bubble would not work in Recon, and god knows why but desintegrator and guided torp don’t work while inside.

 

 

I dont see a problem, you made over 5k syn on both and over 200k. win or loss, dc or not. Play well, you get rewarded, which is what is important i think.

when you start looking at a game as nothing but a collection of material rewards you’re no longer playing a game but a work simulator.

Theres no way to predict DC players, it just happens. 

so i took a break, and then came back, and first i sat in queue for 5 minutes to get this 3v3 where my team had a t8 destroyer and the other team had a t11

Oh yeah, it remembers me of a HUGE problem in the MM.

 

I mean, when I pick both my r11 desie and a r15 on my slots, I can’t fly my destroyer “Because it’s not available” due to too low rank. But other players can still use their r11 !

You can still bypass it my equiping nothing higher then r13, but that’s really restricting.

There is a maximum 3 rank difference requirement to be able to select ships in your ship slots. If you slot a r14 as your highest ranked ship, you will be able to fly your r11 ships in that battle.  It is about what you have in your ship slows, not a comparison to some other player. Those other players you mention most probably did not have a r15 ship in their slots.

You can even slot r8+r9+r10+r11 ships and be able to fly all of them in the same “t4” battle.

But in the end I do not have pinpoint information and might be wrong.

MM can’t really handle the situation where few skilled pilots are involved. Especially in tiers lower than r15 where the +/-rank rule is involved. T3 can be a bit better sometimes, but in the “middle” tiers it is just like that.

Yep, the lack of skilled players, especially in squads is a huge problem, you can see MAM and some other guys flying r9/10 all the time and they have nearly never worthy opponents, I was flying T3 yesterday with some corp mates and yeah… you can guess how it ended.

T5 is only better at prime time.

MM has been borked for some time now. My W/L has dropped by .02 in two months as im not having any effect on the outcome of many of these games anymore.

Just had a game in T5 where it was clear from the start enemy team was going to win the MM responds by adding two squad to enemy team who had and avg w/l of 2.4 and an r14 dess. GG it was not.

4th straight loss of the day where i have seen almost the full gambit of idiot team behaviour, hiding behind a rock at spawn in survival, 5 slow frigs in a 6v6 beacon hunt and a scattered to the wind team in domination. Player action it is but all the numbers in the world dont make these games balanced or fun, at this point i would take totally random MM, it couldnt do a worse job than this.

Can’t we just agree that PvP is horrible in every game?

Agreed. IDK if it can get better but it is certainly better than before.

When I read the news about spawn kills giving 3 points in Team Deathmatch, I thought, it meant, killing the enemy in your own spawn. Which I found awesome.

Instead, it gives those points actually if you kill the enemy in their spawn, supposedly to “accelerate” the game.

For me it feels like these rules are made for bad losers. It gives emphasis on spawn pressure. Same like the respawn mechanics, some of the implant mechanics, it serves to pleasure a “we came, saw and won” playstyle, mostly with a cookie cutter deck. If there is spawncamp, game is over, anyway, faster.

It really should be the other way around, for me to make sense. Games should not be about just initial advantage and trying to deny the enemy to play.

Note, this is my personal opinion, and I have this since I know SC. I learned to live with it. But I never quite understood why - or maybe, but I just don’t agree with this mindset, which I find is the cowards strategy.

On the other hand, bad games are unavoidable in general. You can’t solve everything with magic MM. We shouldn’t expect it. Also the scores imho tell little, about what happened ingame, so I do agree to the OP’s sentiment, even if probably the pictures aren’t solid proof for it.

I dunno if T5 is so much cosier lately, it was a lot cosier a month ago, lately I had less fun, but maybe I played too early; in R10 some stuff like the stingray also sometimes put team balance off a lot - since the Wolf-M lost its tank - and it being a bit more exclusive.

I probably should have checked this first but I used to be able to slot r11 r13 and r15 and be able to use all of the ships due to being within 3 ranks of each other. The important one is r13… May not work NOW but try it anyway.

And as far as matchmaker, at least for pvp, I do think that it needs a bit more attention BUT due to the lack of players a fix isn’t really plausible unless you are willing to wait longer… and by “you” I mean everyone. Some days I get way more losses than wins other days I don’t lose a single battle. As far as why, I don’t know exactly other than maybe some of the best players get put into one team instead of being evenly distributed.

I read in the logs something about status which may have something to do with MM… Ideally better players should be more evenly distributed and last I heard it is but I cant tell a lot of times… There are times we just get f’ing destroyed…
