the fun ends at Rank8

So let me ask you guys this. When you started playing Star Conflict how was it then when you got up to T3 or try to get past it?

.

I only moved up to T3 when I was fully blue in it under the old, much less grindy system where you would unlock all modules for a faction and then bought them for credits. So it was a smooth transition, I was competitive from the get go. These days it’s much harder to move up the tiers. As someone so nicely put it in general chat yesterday:

No one even tried to show up at B except 1 enemy LRF which was kill fairly quickly. Btw. we won but I wasn’t at the top because was going for objectives instead of killing a million guys.

Players ignoring objectives always was an issue, but it got worse when the game became so much more grindy. These days I often ignore the map objectives myself. Winning the map does not matter for rewards, so I go for contract objectives first instead (if my contracts happen to be for beacons or winning I’ll win though :P).

Oh god the old nukes… Those were the worst thing ever I swear, especially when you got killed by your own team.

Ahaha, I had already forgotten about that. Back then we had nukes everywhere, and in addition the covops could do bomb runs under adaptive camo with the bomb not showing up. And plasma-arc would knock a frigate out cold. Good times to be a cov-ops back then…

Thats is actually not true, moving up in tiers was way way worse before, entry ranks ships were completely useless and non competitive because there were fixed tiers, getting in T3 was a nightmare because there were so many 4 man squads running in full mk3/mk4 gear and you in your r7 mk1 had zero chances contributing to overall outcome.

At some point (pre 0.7.x) grind was relatively quick, but it was made for Testing purposes to make people level fast, than it was slowed down, in a transition to a current progression system in 0.8 era it was better and worse in the same time, yes, by reaching a certain milestone you could unlock all mk3 gear of a sub faction which was great, but getting to that milestone was tremendously longer than getting 6+ mk3 modules of this faction under current system (T3+) current system allows you to level and gear up in selected ships much faster and gradually, another thing is that you HAD to level every faction (Emp,Fed,Jer), because implants were tightened to a faction, and in order to have that implant you had to have a faction rank. Overall progression was way way way slower and advancing in tiers was ridiculous, remember repair bills in T4? or even T3 was expensive.

Game play was xxxx, nuke spams, mineFreakingfield spam on beacons, most of the time there was only 1 ship competitive in a tier and MOST of all builds (i.e. like a command/dmg/kinda tackler) were done on the same ship frame, because it has best F and passives, cough…cough Kastors. Most of the builds were cookie cutter, gameplay was not as diverse as of now, even though it is forced with roles upon us, but it is way more fun and dynamic than it was (well except for 800+ speed on interceptors, that was fun ).

Every one goes “ahh old good times, grass was greener, bacon was baconer” no it wasnt, there were so many flaws, blatant imbalances, lack of diversity (even though there were so much stuff available, all skilled min/maxers would do almost the same thing, because it is how competitive gameplay works in any pvp game). Obviously current game is not perfect, but it is way better and balanced, best part what i like about new game is that there are multiple VIABLE builds/game plans on EVERY role now, while before it was 1-2 VIABLE build PER CLASS.

Doesn’t mirror my experience, but as I said, I never advanced a tier before having full mk3 gear myself.

I certainly agree on the repair bills which used to keep everyone in t2, but not on the advancement. Sure, if you only want to play a single ship/role you’ll advance faster now, but if you want to play all of them then you’re looking at several times the grind you had back then. And single role pilots will probably bore of the game quickly…

Besides, the way the game gets radically re-balanced every couple of patches you cannot really say that you do not have to level up every faction’s ships anymore.

I was only talking about a specific point, namely the loyalty system. And I’m not saying the old system was good, either. I oppose all multi-currency grinds in any game and think they should be removed from this game, too. If it was up to me then they should condense it down to only credits + GS, remove the contract system which is just a chore, make winning earn more than losing and end up with much happier players.

And I never said everything else was better before. For example, I never opposed all the changes that lead to the clearly defined roles we have now as opposed to the originally fit anything, be anything type of play (which led to everyone being the same anyway as you correctly said). But the way they took wasn’t a smooth one either - a few patches back the game play had become completely static and boring to me plus the netcode and server performance was so bad (servers are still bad) that I stopped playing. I’m back now, the game is far from perfect but feels much better again.

@Snib, i meant to separate a post, i didnt mean to aim all of it as a reply, most of it is back to Enny on how it was before vs now.

I’m trying to progress further than Rank8 level up my ships learn how to fly the new ships. But for me that seems impossible. Sure I can level up ships in PvE and/or use premium ships and transfer synergy. But whats the point, I cannot fly a T4 ship properly if I never flown one in PvP. There is also no point with T4 as there are rarely any matches, if there are matches then only during Sector Conquest against T5.

I share your sentiment. I live on EST zone and since I work during the day I can only play in the evenings when the population is at the lowest level and there are literally no T4 games. SC fighting stage is too short and playing against T5’s is not fun. The SC should really be split into T4’s only and T5’s only.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts on this.

Well it looks like the game came a long way to where it is now. While it is better than moths or a year ago it is still not in a release state.

Meaning some stuff still needs to be improved/fixed before a release.

Well the fun really seems to start (as mentioned here before) at rank 8 because you can more customize your ship but with Rank 9 it gets hard on the low population time zones to get a match and you can almost forget about queuing with R9’s in a squad.

So can I even get good enough in R8/9 solo fights to jump right into SecCon with T5 my ships? I doubt it.

I agree if SecCon would have at least 2 queues T3/T4 and T4/T5 so that top players don’t get frustrated by useless paper ships in their team and T3 pilots don’t get frustrated by getting farm by T5’s.

That would defeat the purpose of SC though.   The SC queue isn’t as big as you think it is during off hours…most of the time it’s 4v4 against the same group of players for the entire hour.  Splitting up the queue into T4 and T5 would just lengthen the wait times.

+1.  I feel like this is the general consensus.  It’d be nice if the devs would finally change it.

I usually see some activity around SecCon time in T4 and T5 but the bar don’t tell me how many are in SecCon Queue and what is maybe just PvE. When the Russians are up there is more activity (like on weekends).

So maybe at the moment it is better not to split SecCon queue to not break it entirely for those playing it in non-European/Russian time zones.

Regarding the grinding the game: with this progressing or for the inexperienced player suggests you need to get to higher Tier (like some people told me, you need to get to T3 thats where the fun is). What is the point in getting to T3 with 50 PvP matches?

Now that you can buy all the way up to T5 without playing a single PvP or PvE is just gonna break the game even more, with more frustration on both sides.

Those who spend nothing or almost nothing on the game may not progress as fast but they are more experienced by the time they get their. Of course they have to endure a lot more grinding to get there so no DLC the gives you more credits/syn or premium ships where you can farm more credits in PvE and NO license which gives you 50% more on everything.

The best advise I can give to beginners is: progress at multiple factions and roles at the same time, level up all ships you buy (especially in T1 and T2), don’t buy anything unless it is on sale and take your time in progression try out all weapons and different ship builds.

premium ships where you can farm more credits in PvE

Or premiums in PvP if you’re not interested enough in PvE.

I have over 7.5 million synergy locked up on various ships.  The 20%'s better than the 5%, but it sucks knowing that 80% of your synergy’s getting locked up.

Wow you could have transferred that synergy last weekend for 25000GS (that would be $40 when you by the 50%off Elite pilot DLC).

I don’t have that much synergy locked on ships, mainly because I haven’t played that many PvP’s yet. When I play with a friend inT2 I use also DLC/Premium ships because every of the standard ships are synergized and the prem ships give more free syn and more credits.

Most of the ships I bother with leveling are Elite and I don’t want to bother with some of the ships with minimal or no synergy.  I have 2.6 million locked on elite ships.  I actually got a Valor and dropped my Styx only for the free synergy bonus.  I can’t grind T4 ships outside of PvE and that’s life sucking.  Instead I grind free synergy.  I can only imagine how many ships I could unlock if I converted all that synergy.  A few days ago I took some of my free synergy and raised my fleet strength by about eight ships.

Every one goes “ahh old good times, grass was greener, bacon was baconer”

lol

I grind my t4s in sec con

T4 pilot reporting in. If you can get one other person in your squad I think it helps shorten the wye times. With 3 people in squad though we were having troubles.
