Target Spamming Needs To Be Disabled Or Removed

Dear Devs,

 

Since the latest patch, you’ve added in a new “feature” to ping your target to all players on your team.  This needs to be removed immediately.  Did you really think adding a way for a player to distract, annoy, and spam all players wouldn’t be abused like crazy?

 

I think I’ve played 40-50 games since the patch was released, and I’d say 90% of those games were FILLED with some annoying twat constantly spamming targets.  It’s even better when 4 or 5 of them all decide every target they paint needs to be spammed 10-12 times, producing 50-60 ‘pings’ and also filling up the chat making text communications impossible (though I suppose this could be alleviated if you added voip, but not the annoyance).  I think I’ve now played 5, maybe 6 games where the above wasn’t taking place, and people were actually using it reasonably and marginally effectively.

 

There are only 2 scenarios where this “feature” should be allowed:

 

1.  You are the Captain and most definitely SHOULD be able to paint/prioritize targets.

2.  You are in a squad, and your pings ONLY ping to your squadmates.

 

Aside from the above 2, this crap needs to be disabled/removed, or at the absolute least, reworked. 

 

As for how to rework it, I’ll suggest the following:

 

  • Add a damn option to ignore/disable this entirely.  This is stupidly annoying enough to make me stop playing entirely.  It’s like you wanted to give 12 year olds the ability to aggravate everyone around them.

  • Change the ping to be one ping only Vasily (per target), and add a 10 second cooldown on subsequent pings.

  • Make pings ONLY ping to your squadmates.  Honestly, this “feature” if not abused makes co-ordination much easier in a squad, but until you add Corp battles, it’s just spam.

  • Allow pings ONLY in Recon and limit the ability to Captains only.

 

I realize your intention with this “feature” was to try to enhance co-ordination, communication, and teamwork, but the implementation was poorly thought out and actually has the opposite effect by allowing massive spam and annoyance/distraction to all players.

 

I’ve since begun reporting players who have been target spamming, and I urge ALL players to do the same.  Sadly, you’ll have to wait until after the match is over, but the chat remains, so you can at least still see who was being a twat.

 

I’d have less of an issue with this whole thing if the Ignore function actually, you know, ignored them, but it doesn’t.

 

Please devs, disable this for now until you’ve reworked it so 12 year olds can’t abuse it to spam and piss off everyone in the game.

I find this to be a useful feature. lets me know who the other guy is going to fire at ahead of time. Also, after the initial learning curve of how to use this feature, people don’t seem to ping you more than 1-2.

 

Also, very nice of you to only include in your poll options that in some way agree with you. the “I think this is a good feature and is working more or less ok and should stay” option is lacking from your poll.

That’s actually a decent idea. 

I would prefere to give it own seperate button, because it its usefull feature to coordinate pub players, but at current state it’s simply broken

This new feature is pretty good and definitly needed. But seriously it doesn’t need to spam the chat window.

 

I think it would be fine if they just remove the chat notification.

I’m not sure if this is related but ever since this feature came out, I’ve been lagging like mad. Could the additional message traffic be causing jams in the system? Been getting 400-600 pings now, making the game almost unplayable. Hell, I can’t even get an inty to fly straight any more, it keeps spinning. And don’t get me started on what happens when you fly between 2 asteroids. I thought this was a space sim, not pinball.

How convenient none of the poll options says its fine as it is… because it really is a nice addition and I like it.

Ofcourse it could see some improvement, but there is always room for improvement everywhere.

 

I really like the devs are working to make team communication at least a possibility :slight_smile:

* as already suggested some kind of spam protection like posting the same target only every 10 seconds (regardless who reports it) and another target from the same reporter only after 5 seconds)

* i also like the info more prominent in the hud, rather than in the chat. maybe even show the the last X reported targets in a list. with automatically remove items from the list after a some time (1 min or so)

this list above of the chatwindow would be nice, maybe with the icon for shiptype and name. i don’t mind that some people ping a single target 3-5 times, it doesn’t even distract me so i can’t agree to the OP

I think this issue just became a very minor issue with the latest patch among the other things that just went horribly wrong.

 

Shame really, 7 days left on License but no point in playing in any of those days.

I somehow really rarely get people spamming that message. Feels working as intended. Not that the ocasional target calling message obscures some important stuff. People are busy shooting, feels it’s voice-comms or nothing.
