Synergy from maxed out ships

Hello folks

 

Just wondering if there are any plans for a mechanism/system for utilising the synergy you accumulate on ships that have maxed out their synergy bars.

 

I know you can convert it to free synergy by spending GS  - which is fine; but will there ever be other options.
