Strafe movement abuse on Ellydium ships - 2 Antifriction sphere + 1 Synthesis sphere abuse - Needs fixing!

Bug report: (could also be just a bad mechanic that allows abuse - still needs addressing or fixing)

What happened?

Thar’Ga with two Antifriction spheres and one Synthesis sphere has an insane strafe capabilities.

What should be done?

First, not more than one Antifriction sphere should be equipped with any Ellydium ship.

Also, the description of the Antifriction sphere should be added: Only one modifier of this type can be active.

Vibrating Thargatok Thargas seem to be the new meta now. I hate it.

Thar’Ga’Tok is not an overpowered weapon. It’s been nerfed very, very much in the past!

The Thargatok is not an issue itself. It’s the numerous weapon buffs that the Tharga has.

They took that away with the reduction of mutation points from 1300 to 1125. Their strafe speed/movement is a bigger problem. It’s a Gunship after all.

Is it strafe abuse or ping abuse ? i have only seen a couple of TharGas strafing to the point you cant hit them … the secret to that is in the “Art of War” shoot where the enemy is not …they will run into your fire  as they are strafing back to point “A”  they always go left right left right " A----B—A—B"  just fire on “A” and kill the fcker   I’m sure if you were playing on a Dev’s computer  connected directly to the game  and your ping was 1ms that famous Elly abuse wouldn’t be a problem … the real abuse is the 8 bit server we are forced to play on … it always feels like Mario bros when I’m in PVP , WAKE UP DEV?S the 80’s are long gone  we have access to better tech now  … we live in the new millennium after all…

I heard from someone that server costs for them are like less than a one hundred dollars for renting servers. I hope he was joking and that this isn’t true.

It is. You’re blind.

All stats listed below are with a T3(R9) Thar’Ga with 0 crew and 0 bonuses.

  • Assault Railgun - 12
    • 555 Damage/hit
    • 210 Round’s/Min
    • 20% Critical
    • 50% Crit Damage
    • 5225ms Projectile Speed
    • 2950m Range
    • 0.1-2 Spread
    • 6 Sec overheat/0.8 second cooldown
  • Thar’Ga’Tok - 12
    • 420-840 Damage/hit
    • 180 Rounds/min
    • 5% Critical Chance
    • 60% Damage
    • 3950Ms-6600ms Projectile Speed
    • 3450m range
    • 0-1.7 Spread

Let’s see, Thar’Ga’Tok has

  1. Higher Damage
  2. Higher Critical Damage
  3. Higher Projectile Speed charged
  4. Higher range
  5. Lower Spread

Couple this with the R9 Bonus "EM Projectile Speed increase by 35% and spread reduced by 33.3 you have yourself a 0.8 spread- 10k projectile speed with Booster Circuit.  Assault railgun can’t do that! Not to mention Aiming Overcharge to compensate for the low chance of critical, and crew for more damage/crit damage. 924/hit at Mk1. Slow them down with Inhihibitor Swarm and you got yourself a mean overpowered gun.

Tested both on Predators few minutes ago - I don’t see much a difference (tests were done on identically configured Thar’ga with the only exception of switching offence bonus from EM to Kinetic and vice-versa). Thar’Ga’tok is doing it’s max damage with max projectile speed in last maybe 1.5-2 seconds. It has a slightly bigger range, but both of them are primarily used in close-med range anyways. With Aiming Overcharge activated AR is shooting only crits, Thar’Ga’tok was shooting ~25% non-critical shots. Dunno how did you achieve 0.8 spread on Thar’Ga’tok as in both cases was respective Offence bonus activated. So for short burst - AR wins, for prolonged fire - Thar’Ga’tok has a slight edge, but that can be my impression as I watched those two recordings and taking down a Predator took similar amount of time and I won’t bother with doing 1024 tests just to prove with 95% significance that one of those guns is better by a few percent.

You’re missing a glaring drawback of thargatok – needing to heat up before it reaches full DPS/projectile speed. Rails have constant DPS which is great for sudden overdrive + overcharge ambush

Also, rails have extra crit chance (+15% from your own post)

They’re both good weapons, neither overpowered

The only thing that needs to change about thargatok is hit sound. It sounds like kinetic weapon right now when it should sounds like EM

Also rails can be used in a burst fire mode so spread doesn’t get to high without sufferings DPS

Heatup is a thing, I used Electronic Guidance with crew. 1 w/o crew 1.3 with. Mk4.

The issue is the damage/hit, up close, spread does not matter, with the Thar’Ga’Tok you can have insane damage, I had a guy in Pirate Fort Raid with 25% weapon damage and that bonus, making his Thar’Ga’Tok deal 1700/hit 6k proj speed(close range rotation build) at 230 rpm, coupled with overcharge and intuition he was dealing about 2300/hit with a critical of 30% base and damage 90% critical damage, that’s about 4370 per hit, at that ROF. It can get quite stupid. It’s a better weapon in the long run, for the damage/hit and projectile speed. Dev’s didn’t learn from mass driver nerf how OP it can be, but 10k isn’t as bad as 25k.

As I said I compared both guns on the same ship, same build.

Most of the shots are crits:

only 30% are crits:

image.png.9b82e95b3c73289dda8b2af86415a3ec.png

Practical test: it took me 1 minute 25 seconds to deal with group of predator, 2 hunters and 4 scouts with both weapons ±2 seconds. So I have to disagree with opinion that Thar’ga’tok is significantly better than AR. Also this ship has +25% damage bonus as well.

Assault Rails > Thargatok for PvP, and in PvE nobody cares just bring a Destroyer or LRF
