Station Protection: Off - benefits in Open Space mode (realistic mode)

Now that Open Space mode is simply ridiculous, I am proposing a simple change for the people, who want to risk and get more benefits out of it.

After all, Open Space mode is meant to be perilous and unpredictable in many ways.

You can still have Station Protection On, but this will mean that you’re not entitled to any bonuses. House takes it all!

 

I will describe a few bonuses that you will get, when using “No Station Protection”.

 

Possibilities: (only one option can be active and it’s universal)

 

option 1: standard synergy is automatically converted to free synergy, while doing side missions/errands in Open Space

option 2: side missions/errands rewards are doubled, while doing them in Open Space

option 3: karma amount is doubled, while killing enemies or players in Open Space

option 4: cargo drones do not charge 10% credit fee, while using them in Open Space (free transport for loot to your Armory)

option 5 : “Destroy Alien ships” task in Open Space, when completed, gives you a bonus beside usual credit/synergy (+1 monocrystal for such side missions/errands)

 

Option 5 should have different resource rewards, based on danger sector and location.

It should be an exclusive feature for realistic loving pilots, when danger and thrill is the thing you want and get.

For example, option 5 reward will give you impure neodium ore, beryllium ore, monocrystal or a living crystal. All rank 7 and 10 danger sectors contain such rewards.

They should be listed or shown on the map and rotated daily. To avoid farming precious resources, because developers hate that, they can limit this task.

If so, you’re allowed to get rewarded maximum of 3, 6 or 9 times in Open Space.

All you have to do in Open Space, is to wait for Alien ships and successfully destroy them during Invasion phase (green screen).

Based on your needs, you can wait at specific sector, where you will get a specific resource, but only, if you got your Station Protection set to Off!

So you make it one of the best ones and only the current one to get free synergy?

So you turn off for the daily/relative easy one doing it and turn it after then on again.

Useless again. Only helpful if you found a bp or a very valuable credit item. But even then, it’s just credits and meh.

The abusive/punishing character is omnipresent.

Your suggestion doesn’t address the root of the problem: That high rank sectors should remain all vs. all. It add just an abusive way/penalty.

I would rather suggest implementing a new feature: Diplomatic Immunity Protection.

 

While killing players in Open Space, you won’t be persecuted by Military Police. Simple as that. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Station protection make sense. It avoid collision damage and accidentially killed civil ships.

Your last phase make totally no sense. Why should doing a hostile act(killing a faction mate) not being penalized by military ships? I don’t think that any faction support this. But currently it makes no sense, that the three factions doesn’t tolerate killing another factionmate.

I like the concept, but I don’t like the rewards. It doesn’t seem worth it. The main problem here is that newbies want to do all their quests without the risk of getting killed, and without using the appropriate ship (High rank tacklers, for example).

Now Open Space is basically dead. IMO this game mode should revolve around killing stuff and stealing its loot. I already posted this on another thread: OS should be a very high risk-high reward place. Rewards should be enormous (for example, killing a transport or a predator should give very valuable items, such as blueprints, high quantities of rare resources, ship parts, etc), but as soon as you get them, other players will now that you have that precious item in your inventory (either by using special scanners, or because they see you became a criminal), and will try to hunt you down to steal your loot.

Station Protection should not exist. It’s bad for the pirates! :slight_smile:

And if you want more realistic negative karma need to be red not yellow.

  • ∞  to 0 = red

0 to +∞ = yellow and have the choice to be with protection.

Opposite, OS is more alive now than before. A very few new pilots’ income was before recent update. We aimed to develop OS further in PvE direction as well.

os is great we just need more stuff to do in and also why not more valuable ressources

BTW…Thanks for adding in slightly better resource drops. I’m finally getting consistent amounts of neodium in danger 7 sectors compared to previously 4 months ago I could barely get one of those things per every few days.

Can’t wait to see what OS will look like in the future.

The biggest issue with OS is how predictable it is. EVERYTHING in the sectors is predictable.

Could we have two instances of open space?

Those who want only the friendly element can launch into the station protected version, and wont even see people who are out for PvP

Those who want PvP will only run into other PvPers, and not seals who only want to mind their own business and not be clubbed and lose everything.

PvPers get their danger and risk vs reward, and PvErs get their safe relaxing universe, and both sides are happy.

All this would mean encourage and doubble tripple reward op players in op intys to hunt and farm other players and loot as premium on top.

The game is optimized for PvP battles: quick kills in 1,2,3 shots, quick respawn on spot  - this is no model for open space, which would require a higher general basic survivability and counter measures for the average medium competitive player. The recent nerf of the destroyers shows this: it adressed the needs of destroyers in PvP (squad) play.

I dunno now, but imho there  must be a better way for an evolution of Open Space in SC.
