just on observation as well: everyone seems to be hanging back a lot more than usual, scared to poke their heads out, waiting for allies to damage targets then swooping in for the kill… what changed?

Easy, you now can’t disengage from a fight. If you used any active modules at all before or during a fight you will not have the energy to pull back and must rely on your native ship speed to escape. Which never happens because everything is too slow to evade enemy fire and you are helpless without energy. 

And that’s why even before the patch I included energy emitter on my engineer.  I’d seen how much it helped before, and now it’s more valuable in a group for afterburners and active modules.

It just means we have to be more cautious when we pick fights. Don’t rush in unless you’re confident that you can take out the enemies before you. Have enough teammates, maybe get some frigates with long ranged main guns to lay down some cover fire. 

and hanging back and picking up people’s kills is fun? no, he’s right… this patch is stupid… it’s turned people into zombies who are scared to come out and fight unless they have an overwhelming advantage.

after one evening PvP i have to say: This patch is crap. 

What happend to the game? Inties are absolutely unbearable in T4/T5, they are weak and they have no weapons that are really viable. 

The only ships that are “working” are gunships (bubble-guns) and Jerry-Guards. 

Great balance! And where is the consistency in the shiptrees? Just look at Lion and Lion Mk II… 

Pre 9.4 was some kind of balance… why did you screw that and made a new one.

and microlags are still there… feel like a random stasis. 

 

I really dont know where you want to go, but this patch feels like a dumb down so that skill doesnt matter at all. 

What are you trying to achive? Remember where you came from: This game was once so great and it got worse from patch to patch. Why are you putting the players so much stones in the way? I really liked this game, but i see no reason to play at the moment, because I cant fly the ships Id like to, because they are retardedly weak!

It’s the same reason DPS was buffed by an order of magnitude in the weapon changes.  You’re not supposed to live, you’re supposed to die.

Before the patch I had 4-5 slots I could use to sort of fix the interceptor’s weapons. Now only rank 12-15 can get close to that.

 

At the very least right now interceptors need those fix:

 

-Reduced spread on all the weapons

-Reduced Afterburner energy use

 

It would be nice if the weapons had more range too but I know hell will freeze over before that happen.

 

Of course what will really happen next patch is that the pulse lasers are going to get buffed again and orion will be nerfed to counter-balance that. Maybe if pulse uselezors get to 3000 dps I might use them in pve, oh no that’s right inties are worthless in pve too.

I’ve actually noticed pulse lasers more now than before.  They can be quite effective sometimes.  I think a lot of people flying interceptors are just fitting pulse lasers and focusing only on maneuverability verse frigates.  Try that tactic, see how well it goes for you, you can’t fight interceptors, you can’t fight fighters, you can just go after frigates.  Shrapnel’s all but gone, plamsa’s never been a kill blow dealer so RFB isn’t really used.  Assault plasma are good for range only.  For me right now it’s shrapnel for Kris AE or assault plasma.  I’ve been trying out frigates lately, started trying guard again.  I hate playing guards, but the kills and tanking…

It’s true that pulse lasers can really put a dent in a frigate but the optimal range is so short it make you very vulnerable in case the frigate drop mines, shoot a torp or use a pulsar. Orbiting a frig so close for the 25-30 sec it’s going to take you to kill it also make you a prime target for it’s allies and if they force you to turn tail then guess who can now shoot you in the back with positrons. Shrapnel and Blasters also have that particular problem too.

Actually it gets worse on top rather then better, as enemy survivability outscales weapon damage increases. Not to mention skill level increase, which makes all your class improvements void, as your class is still trash tier in comparison to actually functional classes.

 

But funnily enough, interceptors still have a place in pirate PvE speed runs just as they did before. It’s the only place they have in upper tier at the moment in fact.

Have you seen the average playerbase?.. They all rush in like xxxx idiots then whine that they got no support.

 

I admit I whine about a lot of stuff in-game, but that’s solely when I’m in the middle of the field, being chased by a Ceptor I can’t hit and NO ONE, not one of the 8 living pilots RIGHT xxxx NEXT TO ME, even bothers to switch targets to save their own team mate. Assaulting an enemy Station with the Bomb also has to be done solo because no living soul will ever help you. And don’t get me started on Beacon matches… It’s like they line up perfectly to get slaughtered one by one.

 

The problem isn’t ship balance. Ship balance is, save some very broken discrepancies, fine. The problem is the mentality of the people behind those ships.

Alas, that is so true. Sometimes I adopt a more active role and ping madly and hope something happens. But mostly I focus on helping allies. Save them from the ECM that just shut them down, bombard the beacon and do some area denial, defend the bomb carrier. Basically, I just do what I can to make the team win. Sometimes the team is good, sometimes it’s bad. It’s like… lottery.

 

We really, really need some kind of ‘basic teamwork’ guide.

If it’s like that, then I must be the most unlucky xxxxxxx in this game. In no less than THIRTY matches, I’ve won exactly 6. And in all those matches, I ended up in the top 3, minimum.

Interceptors cannot normally kill frigates now. I’m ok with that.

 

But their time to kill against other inties and fighters are still uncomfortably high. It’s safe to say raising inty weapon’s DPS or reducing spread would be a good move for next patch.

 

Eliminating optimal range wouldn’t be so bad either ie. max range = optimal range on interceptors.

 

Tweaking Strafe to Turn speed would also be appreciated. It’s not strafing fast enough making certain moves hard to maintain and at the same time turn so tight you can avoid non federation missiles without even realizing it.

 

Inty vs Inty dogfights take forever and it could be the case where I suck too hard but I have trouble landing my rockets on target because both the enemy inty and myself are moving soo fast now.

 

If Plasma Arc is truly meant to be anti-frigate - I would humbly ask for it to deal full damage in 2 ticks instead of 3. Especially considering Federation CovOps (flagship role) fare the worst against Frigates.

Let’s make this point clear. Plasma Arc was nerfed because it was dealing too much damage in T2. It’s been fixed, but anything after that is largely useless in comparison. This is because they nerfed ALL Tiers instead of just one. Care to take a wild guess why?

 

It’s important to note WHICH Tiers need WHAT tweaks, otehrwise many more mistakes like this will be made.

  1. Expecially decrease spread, Don’t take me wrong more damage is good but spread is the main iusse here. And maybe projectiles speed for plasma weapons (BUT if they decrease spread you could use Booster circuit).

 

  1. Why that? Reduce afterburners consumpion instead.

 

  1. Interceptors vs interceptors can be very quick or takes minutes…it is very skill based and is good that way.

not really. especially with RU server lag. impossible to hit targets… your shots fire almost a full half second after the fact.

 

also, the point of speed on an inty is so they can avoid most area damage. for that, flares and R8 armadillo plant. and emerg bar. and you’re now uber-inty… :\

I actually strongly support this statement. Any game mechanic which instantly kills any other ship is simply not enjoyable and reduces the tactical feel of the game. Currently, it makes the game feel like an arcade shooter.
