So much pessimism surrounding new patches! IMO there’s a fine line between constructive criticism and unconstructive cynicism…
I’m not one to be negative normally but I am hugely disappointed with two areas of this patch:
- The decision to go for T5. Quite frankly, very few people give 2 cents. Hardly anyone even plays T4 at the moment and there are so many areas which could have been far, far, better to work on. Things I look forward to 10,000x more than T5. Like I don’t know, fixing sector conquest, corporation systems, etc.
- Unlimited Missiles. This for me, could be a game breaker. Limited missiles makes them a tactical choice in combat, now I will just spam them. I can’t think of anything more boring. As some of my squad mates will be able to tell you, I had a moment in a game last night where I popped all my cooldowns to fly like the wind with SIX missiles chasing me from different people. I barely made it back to Napdar in her Engineer. With unlimited missiles what stops us from just sitting there and bursting people down one by one with massive missile volleys?
The other changes are actually quite good. Some people will be anxious as folk don’t like change - but further differentiation between the classes is a very positive thing. It makes future balance a lot easier as you can balance individual classes and their weapons more easily.

I’m pretty sure there won’t be unlimited missiles. My understanding is that we will no longer restock on ammo between rounds, but buy the missile pack once like we do a weapon, and it would restock for free each round. All it is changing missiles from a variable cost to a fix cost, encouraging people to actually use MK3 missiles instead of trying to cut costs. Furthermore it opens the possibility of purple missile loot.
EDIT: Also, I totally agree with you about T5. But I guess I’m just bias as a new player. T4 seems (to me) to be a long long time from now. And now T5… the distant… distant future.
It could be the translation was hugely off and that you are correct about the missiles. In that case, I would stand corrected and take back my complaint.
I don’t see how unlimited missiles would work, really.

Therefore, this system has been redesigned. In order to avoid an imbalance, we decided to give up a lot of slots for missiles, but now the number of missiles in combat is unlimited. So you can buy a missile in the hangar, install them, and then use the entire fight! Before flying to the next fight you will not buy a lot of rockets, only one “cage” - so you can use missiles throughout the fight!
Tier 5… what an utter waste of effort. They should have focused on getting T3 / T4 as popular and populated as T2 first, then given us somewhere else to go.
Nobody’s going to play T5. It’s going to be the ghost town the ghosts make fun of.

Minefield/Nuke spam. ERRYWHERE. It’s basically whoever reaches the first Beacon before the enemy and coats it with Minefields or Nukes wins the match.

:dntknw: Might just be wishfull thinking then.

“**количество ракет во время боя будет неограниченным**”
its a quote from russian thread, translation: unlimited missiles in battle, on other hand i can not clearly understand the way they rework mechanics of a refill and they mentioned that the removed/reduced missile slots/types? can’t kinda understand in a context, and i do know russian lol
I believe the concern of you guys about the missiles spam had been considered, so I’ll wait to see how it is in game.

I can already see it. It’s just going to be missiles flying EVERYWHERE. And it’s not even going to be funny having 50 missiles on your xxxx.
ACE online had a spammable amount of missiles, but it worked out well.
And come one, what kind of space war that doesn’t have missle spam? you can see it everywhere in modern wars, just wait to see how it is in actual game.
Yeah… this is precisely why we should have had patch notes four days ago - so we could make it clear this is a terrible, terrible idea.
Unlimited missiles? Really? As if we didn’t have enough Gods-damned Nukes and Minefields everywhere? That’s a just plain awful idea, and it will only hurt the game overall unless missiles suffer a massive nerf in power.
Having a number of missiles available brought a layer of tactical play to the game. Unlimited missiles is a move to appease the Russian player-base who want this game to be more of an arcade 1v1 ‘FFA’ experience where personal play > teamplay.
I have no interest in that, tactical team-play is what draws me to this game. Remove that, and suddenly the appeal disappears.
1 very good thing though! They implemented my ship tree idea for T5!(The picture)

whoopty-freakin-do. 1 Tier. Out of 5.

Смотрите - вы используете ракеты в бою. Есть определенный запас в “кассете”. Когда вы этот запас расходуете, начинается перезарядка, причем довольно длительная.
Look - you are using missiles in a battle, there is a fixed amount of ammo per magazine, when its depleted, quite prolonged reloading kicks in.

Regarding mine fields, DO NOT PANIC, these scenarios are known and evaluated.

Actually, limiting the number of missiles only encourages people to switch ships in battle often. (And benefits those with a 4th hanger slot)
Out of missiles? No problem, switch to you 2nd, 3rd frigate and spam mine fields on the next beacon!
For people who don’t die as much or want to use a certain ship the whole game, they are at a disadvantage. So yes, this could be an interesting change IF implimented correctly. (As you can see thats a big if.)
EDIT: After reading xKostyan’s post above, I think this idea could work out well. But there will definately be a lot more spam… No doubt about that. Even if the reload is fairly long, people aren’t going to think twice about unloading everything at once to get the cool down rolling. Plus if the cooldown resets on death… We’re going to get a whole new brand of stupidity: Suicide miners.

Translation: zero xxxx given. It’s our way or the highway.
