Star Conflict OBT v 0.8.1 update #2

Look, if you want new monetisation options, here’s a couple that I think might be accepted with a reasonable chance of taking hold…

  • Cosmetics. Do you have any idea how much I have spent on LittleBigPlanet buying costumes because “it’s only £0.90 and I can dress a Chimera!”? No, and neither do I! The point is those costumes are dirt cheap and it’s so easy to spend the cash! It’s loose change! You are asking for something stupid like £20-30 for a new ship - I could buy a whole new game for that! Why should I buy those vessels for that sort of money when the Grind-earned ships are generally superior anyway?
  • “Ship Loans”. Spend £1.00 or something and you can unlock a higher tier ship for 12-24 hours. You don’t need any prerequisites to fly it, there’s no repair and re-arming costs and it comes equipped with Mk II gear in every slot. However, it doesn’t generate any loot - it just lets you fly any ship you want in the game. Why would anyone do this? Because it lets them decide if they like the ship or not before buying it.
  • Taunts. Again, charge a small amount of money to let players buy a taunt - a scripted message they can send to a player they just got a kill against by pressing a hotkey. Taunts could include stuff like messages “My grandma flies better than you!” or custom “kill images” that flash up on the enemy screen (ie: the Wardens logo flashes up with the words “Killed by JasanQuinn” emblazoned on it). You could even have an optional “tally” Taunt (ie: “JasanQuinn has killed you 2 times, and assisted killing you 5 times.”). Throw a few of those into a store, and things are bound to get amusing… especially when people seek revenge!
  • Mission / Map voting. For a small fee you can buy “Vote Tokens” that allow you to nudge the game toward certain missions or scenarios. These would work in both Arcade PvP and the Mission PvE modes, but not Sector Conquest. You could even give all players a weekly allocation - say, 2 or 3 - and that way there’s always incentive to get more in case the players just coming online insist on flying that one level / mission you hate and you want to vote them down…

See? Ideas from outside the box - things you can throw together and charge small amounts of money for that are ideal as impulse purchases.

i dont mind microtransactions in a game and whatnot as a means for a company to try and make money… but it shouldnt be so upfront where the standard user that just wants to play for free is constantly being harrassed with an option to spend real money just to do a normal part of the game (looting) because then it just feels like an ad.  keep the microtransactions in the store where they are expected to be and belong.

some of these ideas are good even to a guy like me that doesnt tend to do microtransactions in a game.  i myself though have bothered to look at the premium ships out of curiosity just to check the values and they are indeed WAY overpriced.  the whole point behind microtransactions is that their cost is so tiny most people dont really consider it as money being spent…its spare change they have lying around… like the icre cream truck driving down the road and you just happen to have some change in your pocket… youre going for it… but if it that icecream bar costs you the same as a full tub of icecream… nobody is going to spend it.

Those are some nice ideas Jasan.

What F2P is not about is getting better or more loot by paying. It’s about getting cosmetics or boosts (not for loot but for XP/Loyalty) that do not directly interfere with the economy or power balance. You did a good job with the premium modules, for example. They do not interfere with power balance because you can get equally powerful ones without paying, it just takes longer.

Otherwise, like the loot changes in 0.8.1 show perfectly, you get P4Fun and even that’s not the case any more since paying now means you get the same average results like WITHOUT paying yielded before. So what we have here now is P4Nothing and that’s the worst case.

Revert those insane loot changes and instead get ur money with the licenses and stuff like:

  • custom ship decorations (colors, patterns, cosmetic modules that show on the model…)

  • different colors for weapon fire (green laser beams, more spectacular missile explosions, different color for plasma projectiles etc.)

  • mission types reserved for those who pay for it. obviously, these must not be more profitable than the normal ones, just different.

You get the general idea…

I’ve suggested custom-colour weapons before. I think being able to buy missile modifiers or custom missiles would be cool as well - ones that, say, produce fireworks or a skull-shaped explosion when they hit someone. Those might be pretty cool.

LET THE UNUSUAL HAT MISSILE MODS COMMENSE!

Honestly though, a much better idea than what’s going on right now. People love customization without actual effects - just look at Team Fortress 2. They have an entire economy based on virtual objects that don’t even affect gameplay in the slightest. You do not need silly gimmicks to suck money out of people, you just need a really good game that people are willing to play. Several people have already put in a LOT of money for this game before it ever asked things like ‘do you want this loot chance’ and ‘hey its harder to grind now, buy some of this’. The money comes in not by force but by interest in the main game itself.

Also, please don’t make a game mode specific to buyers only - that will be a very sparsly populated place. STO had a place you could go to if you were a premium member, but there was no real point to going to it so no one ever did. TF2 has a game mode you buy into, but you don’t HAVE to buy into it, F2P can still play it [but the buyers get special items for beating the levels. That sort of system isn’t necessary in this game, just a different variation of looting would do the trick].

Note I am definitely a F2P, not because I don’t like the game or don’t think its worth it, I’m just a very very cheap person who doesn’t even want to buy food half the time.

I already commented on the repair costs topic: as far as devs told me, they didn’t change things regarding repair costs. We need feedback on why do you think its higher. Describe it in more details please - we cannot distinguish whether it is a bug or anything else.

And as I mentioned, this is at odds with what you yourself told us when the patch went live…

You posted and told us that, because we were getting more cash from loot, the repair costs had been increased.

I think the only reason we think this because you told us it was so.

t3 ships went from 30k or 40k to 48k to repair fully. So it was increased.

How about bring back 6 guns to engineer frigates ?  Because now they suck. They barely have the damage of a non-overdrive fighter, slow speed and you have to camp behind somehting to repair your allies. Only frigate that does any damage is a frigate that sits 12km behind and tries to snipe. So grats on killing enginner frigates , the loot system, and most of the game. Nice to see you listen to you small player base about feedback. Reflects in your patches

No, The engineer will be a god again if you put 6 guns on it, they are rear guard not front line assassin.

Since half the player base was saying engineers had too much firepower, actually yes they did on this point.

Complain about the camera instead.

The only problem engineering being crushed is because the camera. The most part of players dont use the radar to see if enemys are aproaching, trhusting only in what they see. Because the excessive zoom in camera, they are half blind.

Not quite.  Ship repair costs are not divided up by tier, they’re divided up by rank.  Rank 8 ships cost 40k to fully repair, rank 9 cost 48k.  This hasn’t changed recently.

Many are saying that the frigate engineer is like

dead weight on the team because of the decrease of 6 guns she had 4 cannons current honestly thought this reduction is correct for it to stay atraz of fire lines supporting the other players, only going to see much Frigate going to play along with the fighters there that she survives …

Another problem is that I agree that she is very camera listed on the ship threw another day of long-range frigate and she spent half the screen …

The other camera was much better could alter the distance … Another thing is ruin this update package and the new system is pecimo serve as such a thing can I pay for an extraction and it still breaks even if the lottery could not increase more than 10% chance

i will buy that steam  Star Conflict: Mercenary Pack if you roll back that camera

easy money`!  :P
