Rep gain was fine with getting all ranks in 1 or 2 months - people still have lives, eat, sleep and play other games. What’s the problem in getting access to everything in a low amount of time? You confuse this game with PvE content - it’s not - it’s clearly PvP.
Dunno whether you can remember a game usually just nicknamed 1.6 but uhm, you know, no grinding. At all. Ever. Worked perfectely fine for PvP. GW 1 had 20 damn levels that you could make in half a day and another for max-stat armor - or just make a PvP character, no time needed at all.
This game however is crap. It was really enjoyable (once upon a time in a land not to far away…). I basically quit it when they first changed the rep system to “You can gain rep with contracts now…”. The only gripe I still have left is that you can’t “disrecommend” games on Steam. That’s what everyone should do - warn everyone else of what a waste of life this game is.
Bloddy hell, Are people still going about this?
What if they just removed all the tiers? What would your excuse for sucking then be?

your post is contradicting itself, If it is purely pvp, which it sort of is with current content, then what does it matter that it takes long to get to the highest tier ships?
Nobody is stopping you from playing just tier 2 with faction gear and dont worry about the gaining of rep? Im having a blast either way, if you see it as a grind then you shouldnt want to get to tier 4 simple as that.
Also 1-2 months to get everything there is in a game really is not good for its longjevity, people like having to look forward to something, its basic psychology. Even people with jobs :P…
Comparing this game to CS is a bit far fetched imho, but okay if you want to play that card, you would prefer you have all ships from the start, and all equipment? I dont think so.
And if you do, then you shoudnt be playing a progression game with rpg elements such a gear
No…they are getting more expensive after a few uprades. Just tried it out before two days ago. But anyway…it is still cheap.
Oh, understood. Yeah, storage space is cheap. but is there any cap for it?
I am struggling to find incentives to come back to this game. I want to level up my faction ranking so I can get Mk III gear in tier 2, but it takes far too long. I want to be able to buy more Tier 2 ships, but since they’re laden with junk and the income has been nerfed it takes far too long. I want to be able to play in Tier 1 ships since I’ve only got an entry level Tier 2 interceptor, but I’m getting thrown into matches against people with Tier 2 vessels.
I don’t want to play a Pay to Win game. Prior to this patch I felt like I was making progress in this game, and more importantly I was enjoying this game! I was seriously considering throwing some money at it to buy some shiny toys and get myself a new ship without having to grind for it. Now… now I have no intention of supporting the game financially.

Ill give you an incentive, its fun! Stop worrying about progression and enjoy flying and fighting. It works.

Pre-patch it was fun, not so much anymore.
Okay… so i have a question.
I’m a rank 9 tier 3 pilot with fed.
I’m a rank 6 empire pilot, and a rank 3 jericho pilot.
I’m 3/4 of the way to rank 10 with fed.
I have NO subfaction above rank 6. (I just started playing last week)
I play with players that are above my rank but not by much. When we queue together we are placed someplace up between tier 4 or tier 5. (I view the MM graph to see where we are placed). We cant get matches, and when we do I and a few of them are outclassed ship wise.
When I do hit rank 10 with my fed ships, will I automatically be forced to play tier 4 to get full rep and cash rewards? because I’m about 7 milion creds shy of buying my tier 4 ship (the Federation rank 10 Tiger). So NOW when i hit rank 10 tonight, with my meager rewards I will hit a wall of getting my rewards because according to the new reward system and algorithm I am a tier 4 pilot trying to ‘farm’ tier 3. How long will it take me to get enough cash to not only keep 1 out of 2 of my tier 3 ships repaired but to buy a tier 4 ship, only to hop in the queue for an hour before finding a match, since no one is in the queue for that tier.
I like playing my highest tier, so do the players I’m with. but as of right now, I cant get in a squad with my corps mates because our combined MM placement score is above anyone else in queue.
So Dev’s what should i do when i hit tier 4 tonight but dont have a tier 4 ship and can’t play with my friends?
I feel your pain. I fly Raid ships up to rank 8 now I’m trying to level tech ships but it is very painful. Only redeming factor is my premium ships cost little to repair. I still do make money ducking christ
Pre-patch it was fun, not so much anymore.
This is so very true; prior to this patch I was loving the game. Now… now I regret it every time I click the launch button and see what I’m matched against.
When are we likely to hear news about the next patch?
I dont think there were *ANY* serious compliants about the game when it first launched on Steam. Players loved it. And if they are anything like me they didnt get “bored” with it, they got tired of getting screwed every patch. I’m watching these forums everyday to see if things change. I want to play again, but I’m not going to without a pilot’s license and I will NOT be buying a pilot’s license with these patches like this.
So now the skill rating based matchmaker prevents of farming newbies constantly? Awful patch yes
This is the best MM algorythm since August - we got some challenge in fights finally.
Economics fixed too, we got more fights at T4 even 12x12, because of significantly lowered repair bills. Higher ship prices? This isn’t too much, really. It just prevents newbies from playing tiers where they still don’t have actual gameplay experience to help their teams anyway.
Even without premium you will have a positive income at T1-T3.
In what way it prevents? The whole thing was about t4-able pilot preffering to farm rep in t2 ships because of low rep gain in t4( longer waits, squads) per hour compared to t2( low wait and he conributes to Victory more - more gain). Statisticaly it was few pro + bunch of newbies vs few pro + bunch of newbies. If player loves t2 he will stay there and remain pro in t2 regardless of farming. So don’t put it like it saves newbies in any way, it doesn’t. It just forces players to fly high tiers in effort to reduce waiting times there. And algorithm in itself is bs crap - what challenge are you talking about? Different tiers put in same combat BUT higher tiers only get decent rep for same tier-ships, effectively penalizing them for attacking lower-tier ships in such battle. At same time low-tier rep gain is further penalized by fact that their team support modules are usualy overridden by higher-tier comrades while their effectiveness in batle isn’t equal , as low-tier have disadvantage attacking higher tier spec-wise resulting more time effort and lower success rate for high-tier enemies and lower pool of targets of same level. It all looks like game tells people - “okay we got t2 and t3 in this battle, all t2 fight t2 and ignore t3. All t3 fight t3 and ignore t2” why put them in same battle then? To lower queue times?
And what’s that " Higher ship prices? This isn’t too much, really. It just prevents newbies from playing tiers where they still don’t have actual gameplay experience to help their teams anyway." crap?
So by your words player 1) penalised for using ships lower than his rank 2) penalised for using freshly achieved top rank ships. Question follows. How then they are supposed to achieve said expirience in that rank if they penalised for playing in it and not playing it? Check your logic, srsly.
Zerk1 is from ESB, which means he has everything unlocked anyway and is Russian so ofcourse his opinion is very biased.
He wouldn’t have a clue how hard it might be to unlock stuff now, heck I mean we can’t have people playing against ESB in similiar fittings can we?
Joy of joys; I was just finishing up completing my contracts when low and behold - TIER III in a TIER I match!
Well, that went as well as can be expected. The guy just would not die and we lost. Next game he was on our side and guess which team won! Match three, Tier III is back on the opposing side, and I really don’t see why I would give this game a second chance when doing so got me kicked in the teeth.
You guys just need to figure out how the system works. Though personally this system is a bit ‘meh’ since the tech advantages can still be rather one sided…

This. Game was nearly perfect when it got released on Steam…
Oh, understood. Yeah, storage space is cheap. but is there any cap for it?
yeah, there is one. but i don’t know exactly where this cap is. i upgraded to 400 and got additional 500 space storage due to a steam-dlc. So I’m at 900. but 400/500 should be enough storage to have a huge variaty of modules, weapons and stuff.

Grind Scenarios for cash until Mk2, then pewpew seems to be working. Quite time consuming, but ho hum. Not looking forward to my licence running out tho.
