Sniping vs Torpedo

is it only me or is it a bit unfair?

 

Torpedos can be shot down by every ship in the game and has a bit too slow speed.

Snipers can shoot long range, quickly and is unblockable.

it will end with “only sniping” games lol

They are both useless abilities past tier 1 and they only exist for your team mates to troll the rest of the team and save on repair bills while they lazily sit at the spawn point and still think they are doing something to help.

personally i only use them when im protecting the captain but its still unfair

Torps can be shot from behind cover.

They can hit multiple enemies.

 

Controlled directly by the player who can explode it at any time.

Honestly I think Torps have a better use later on than Snipers. You can actively be in a fight and use the Torp for short distance hits or soften groups of enemies. Frigs shouldn’t waste those support buffs on themselves.

yea, that way they are better, IF they make it that far since every ship in the game can shoot them down or use flairs

Yeah. I really don’t see it as a DPS weapon. It’s more a burst and should be used like that. See too many people trying to DPS with them. It’s fail.

true, but its still good to disorientate, irritate or stress the enemy

I find torpedo’s work really well to support someone in a dog-fight.

I got a bunch of kills yesterday taking out guys who were being suckered into a dog fight in my range

Torpedo should be used to initiate/clear defenses.

Designator for finishing off weaken targets and harass.

I’m sure your team mates were thrilled about the torpedos detonating in the middle of them.

I find sitting sniping with an empire frigate useless, go brawl the enemy, and if you are in trouble, warp out and bring up your sniper turret to deal the final blows.

 

The sniper turret has so low dps and if you think you can rely on it you are extremely wrong…

Torpedo’s are overpowered, you guys are just not using them correctly. 

Sniping is going to be range nerfed more soon.

They both pretty weak later tiers and even with all the flaws right now I rather have drones. Snipers and torpedo users be a something I fear more if they move from the spawn and play like support but most dont.

 

I mean really what so hard from spending a few seconds to move so your sniping from a node so you can cover it.

If you have some teammates who are cooperating properly with some Voice-IP Torpedoes are awesome.  Think about this scenario:  Dogfighting between 1 frigate, 2 fighters + interceptor in a nice ball in open space.  You have a Jericho launching a guided missile and it’s going to arrive soon.  He says over voice-chat, “Break, break, missile incoming.”  You all break from the fight(at least a 1000m or so from the frigate) and then BOOM.   A torpedo just took out the called target, the Frigate’s shields, doing about 6k damage.

You then refocus on the newly beaten down Frigate and take out the fighters/inty’s support.

 

This is how Jericho torpedoes can be used, but in the cluster that is random queues with random people…

Never had problem with torpedos. But that may be because I’ve used a Missile Defense System since T2.

Neither i do have problems with the disintegrator. Both are fairly useless in T3.

Or well… as long as people run with 0 resistances out in the open, i do find some use for both.

…poof, missile defense system/armada drones took that torpedo down before it got in range. :wink:

 

But when it comes to disintegrator vs. torpedos, i think they are fairly balanced with each other, both got its pro’s and con’s.

Torpedo can be shot from and to behind cover, but can be shot down with MDS/(armada)drones.

Disintegrator hits nearly instant but requires line of sight, so it can be avoided by using cover.

 

Frigate with MDS behind a beacon capturing it, and neither disintegrator or torpedo can get to him.

Some facts from personal experience:

 

  1. If you feels like eating donut, drining coke, calling someone and snipe at the same time, go for it, your left hand will do just that.

  2. Sniping will get you planty of kill/assist if you don’t care about winning, I got 3 snipers in some rounds and lose within 3 minutes. Reasons? No one captures the beacon and escort the bomb carrier. Know who to snipe and when to snipe. My sniper frigate have 20k hp and 10k shield, but it’s useless if I don’t put it to use. Put it near a beacon and setup some mine field plus pulsar, then you can snipe.

3. In T1 and T2 battles, you most likely will end up with many new players who don’t know how to play and they only fly in straight line. Sure, you can even snipe them without even locking them. But when you meet up with someone knows how to dodge, you’re going to waste tons of time aiming them and not helping your team on objectives.

  1. Torpedos are like mosquitoes to frigate ships with high hull/shield regenerations, my ship regenerates about the same rate compare to the damage deal by the torpedo.
