Shield Mechanics

Are shields started in the middle of your ship and projected in a round ball, or are they fitted to the shape of your ship?

I was wondering if a Jericho Guard has a bigger area that can be impacted than a fed guard. The fed guard the Anaconda M has a much smaller frontal area would this make the area a weapon has to hit much smaller from the front and bigger on the sides or are the shields a round blob surrounding the ship making the area of impact similar.

They are a round ball independent of the shape of ur ship. They are made so that  a ship fits in just right, so indeed a ship with awkwars shape is easier to hit.

Shields are 3 balls for each ship size however hull is based on the shape of the ship so thin hulls can be hard to hit

That’s why, if you are flying something like a Tormentor-type ship, you want to stay flat, facing your attackers. If you pitch and expose your top or bottom you will be a very easy target, while staying flat means most shots won’t hit you.

But only if you have no shields, at which point your Tormentor is going to be pretty easy to kill anyways. Most of the time.

liquid metal injector+repair kit+nanocoating+spectre and 3 adaptives ftw!!

I seem to remember that there was a bug on the tormentor model at some point, where there was a bit of hull sticking out of the shield, making it possible to bypass the shield and shoot directly at the hull.

Still there, but it’s kind of hard to hit.

I thought the shield hitbox was a sphere! Silly fox :3. However the hull isn’t, It is a rectangle!(that’s why flat ships can fit in flat spaces). Smart fox :P.
