Rework Empire and Jericho Frigate Special Abilities to discourage camping

since most people don`t care about playing as a team in public matches, you find yourself dying pretty quickly as a frigate at the front line.

you are slow as hell and if you move to the front and stay at a node for example, your whole team will fly off to the next node and you be sitting alone there, dying to the next enemy ship that circles you, faster than you can track him.

following your team mates to the next node doesn`t work very well either, since you are so slow.

 

i tried the interceptors as well and i had some good and some aweful games with them. maybe the most drawback is, that your rep costs in an interceptor are as high as in a frigate, while in an interceptor at the front lines you die a lot more often than as a sniper in the back.

with the current prices for new ships and modules you can`t keep buying at least 2 lines in the tech tree and equiping them, even with premium especially if you die more than 1 or 2 times a match…

 

so if you want to buy some ships and modules as you level up, the most viable way to do this is sitting in a sniper frigate and since people try to play a game the most “efficient” way, go figure.

 

getting in and out of the sniper mode a lot is possible, but not very effective in a battle, since you have to wait rather long for the desintegrator to be charged, what is effectively a lot of wasted time in the heat of battle, while your target may be behind cover until it finishes.

 

if the frigates should play a real “tank”, it should have a different special ability, that supports this role.

the frigates as they are now, can tank a lot, if equipped correctly, but they can also die VERY quickly against well equipped inties or fighters. in the heat of battle they are out of place right now, since they can`t track close range enemies good enough when they are moving fast. all of their stats (except their high armor and shield values) shout into your face: “keep your distance from fights”. 

Most of the time, I fly with an Empire frigate, and go in close. Only time that I use my disintegrator is, whenever a target is trying to flee, or to counter-snipe someone, or to weaken some enemies coming for the objective(s). And like Wynn80 said, when I’m sitting at an objective, assisting my teammates. 

 

I have some buffs too, so I’m always in range of my comrades, giving them a slight edge in battle. And I get LOADS of kills (not kill-steals). If you setup right, you’ll survive most encounters, and if not, you’ll be tanking a lot of damage, gaining precious time for your comrades. It is a win-win-win scenario in my opinion.

Camping is ineffective because of underwhelming long range weaponry. If we got some decent extreme range weapons then maybe behind-the-lines fire support would be a thing.

I think its fine really, the range of the weapons have quite a reach for frigates. I mean even the federation can be equipped for long range combat. The thing about camping is that not many actually ‘do’ it right. Most people I see in battles just spawn in and get into designator mode or starts launching guided torps. Its not very effective when you just do that. What ‘is’ effective is when you defend objectives in a frigate.

The funny thing about these ships is that because of their speed they cant run from a fight unless given time to use a jump gate but fighters and interceptors can catch up with a frigate quite easily. They are just not meant to go solo. Your suppose to stick close to other frigates or objectives to survive. Its a very team based ship class. Other classes are too but usually a guy can hit and run or self destruct and do what they were meant to do. A frigate can’t do that alone and I tried myself.

Aircraftman do you even know what your talking about? The snipers or so called Frigates are full support. They have to camp in there base( depends on the player ) because they are long rang. Also I play the Jericho frigates and i support my team mates all the time when they are get tag teamed from the enemy. The missle fire that you QQ so much about helps to control Flags and also helps take down Enemy comanders and enemy ships. The Frigates Suppress enemy ships alowing the small and fast Attack ships to pick up the leftovers. If you take away the range what good will a frigate be. They are slow cant trun and you want that at front lines with you? I will say this, i wish that the Jericho Missile Module wouldn’t dmg your team mates, some times i blow them up ><. Sure Frigates may not be able to plat Emb bombs or Cap any beacons( depends on the player ) but they do give support for beacons and help take down enemy emp ships. That so called CAMPING plays a major roll, I think you just miss understand the point of Frigates in this game.

Anyone camping in their spawn with a sniper of missile frigate is playing the class wrong and is useless to their team.

 

Playing active forward support nets me within the top 3 in score almost every match. When I tried to be long range artillery fire support, I’d be lucky to break 500 points in a game and get more than 2 kills.

 

And, I regularly plant EMP bombs and cap beacons in a frigate. They’re a large and powerful vehicle that provide great AoE buffs for the team.

 

Remember: At least be a little more useful than most and snipe from a captured beacon if you are going to snipe.
