Redevelopment of Maps,

Ok first off im not saying every map should be remade, this is more of a request for any new maps they decide to bring out.

I dont know if people have noticed but while playing Star conflict, no matter what map your on or what game mode the fights are extremely flat. Remember you are in space where the concept of up and down should not be present let alone as obvious as they are.

The current problems with the current maps is they all have  a distinctive top, bottom and middle sections. Although players are free to move about the entire area as much as they want and at any angle they want its all too noticeable that 2 players on the same map will stick to the exact same axis. This is suppose to be a game set in space and the fact that every map seems to be built with this very limited axis reduces both the quality and variety of game play.

Now some people will be extremely quick to counter my argument on this and say they play all around the maps but let me give and example of a typical game (this counts all the way up to r10 t-4). In a standard PvP match there is a level with a big asteroid in the middle (A beacon would be just below it in domination) and in this area is where most of the fighting takes place.

During a match like this take a quick look around at the other people playing. You will quickly notice that people will gather to the top and side and hardly anyone goes near the bottom. If anyone does go to the bottom section, firstly it will probably to escape a duel, or their ship will remain firmly orientated towards the top rather that being on an inverted axis.

This i believe due to the level designers trying to keep level design simple so people can find their way around. Although i agree with this for perhaps T1-2, everyone T4+ has a good idea on how to play the game and i believe the map design should reflect this. The maps for higher raked players should no longer have the axis restraint placed on the levels, and the concept of space should be broadened to allow more tricky escapes and some better dog fighting, as well as being able to line up those perfect shots.

A sphere will never have a top or a bottom so why should space.

I know what you’re talking about, I’ve got that feeling too. A sphere like map would be really nice, a map where you can’t say “this is the top part of the map” or “this is the bottom part of the map”.

i think the latest map sort of achieves this, i like it

I love Alpha-7 but when I get in one of the tight tunnels and I have ping of 800 I crashed and die…

Well the problem is simple geometrics lol.  3 points can never make 3 dimensions; you only get a plane.  Add more, and pilots start feeling like this:

Orientation in 0g… your target is always beneath you!

You learn that from Ender did you Tillo?

I learned that writer had few bad trips and then wrote book about them…

That’s how Ender’s saga was created.

Trips as in vacations or like literal falls hitting the ground? Hah!

3rd option  :006j:

As the brasilians say. “kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk seu lixo!”

Its not simple geometrics. as you rightly said 3 points cant make 3 dimensions but 3 structures all oriented along a single axis is what gives the illusion of top and bottom in a 3 dimensional space. I do a lot of 3D modeling so i tend to notice this illusion. As far as maps go there would be a pretty easy fix. Its not the objects in the map that give it its orientation is simply the position and rotation of those objects. If there were some relative offset to these objects and the objects themselves re-positioned with a new axis that better represents a weightless environment.

A sphere only has a middle and an outer edge. If there was a object in the center of a sphere that had no distinctive orientation (say the giant asteroid in the 1 map i was talking about) and then other objects were simple re-orientated to call that object down this would better represent weightless space. And i firmly believe this would encourage more players to make better use of the maps by having the ability to take advantage or a new orientation.

Ahem, Gaijin, you should hire this user.

That sounds really cool; I like your explanation of it with the sphere’s center being “down.”  Could be interesting to see in game somehow.  Well, since most people hate the layout of the new map (because A is SO FAR from C and is only accessible to and from the tunnels (which I could rant about their placement for a good paragraph or so), there needs to be a change.  Perhaps the new map could be altered so that the giant asteroid is in the middle of the map, with tunnels leading to it from various places, around the asteroid.  Other beacons could be placed around the asteroid, but for this “illusion” to work, we would need something like 5 beacons total.  One in the center, and four or so around it.  This would allow teams to move freely through the terrain without ever feeling “bottlenecked” to a particular (inconvenient and terribly long) route.

Must have been a pretty bad trip if he wrote about children commanding armies of men to fight space bugs…

First book is not that bad… next two well…

when child grow up(after 3000 years) in company of sister and artificial intelligence after some time that super computer learned how to teleport stuff across galaxy >> in first trip that grown up child created 2 more bodies(looking like his siblings) so that child’s soul had 3 bodies  :006j:

and other fcked up stuff

Or they could always modify maps so that structures are oriented at crazy angle to eachother, and then make player ships spawn in randomly rotated angles so the entire mess is all jumbled up.

Kinda like those goofy escorts in Invasion that fly below the transport, but are upside-down or completely sideways as they are flying.

I too would like more 3d feel to the maps. However i still have some problems at time knowing where i am and where i want to go, the minimap doesn’t help much. I wish we had some better navigation tools so we always know where objectives are. I like using the 3d sphere in combat but the range it has is very short, only useful in dogfight…

I just get confused with the sphere.  There are some very 3D maps atm, I can’t remember the names, but the ice map for ex, or the one where B is very “high up” compared to the other two beacons when you spawn in.  I agree they need to rework the tools, but I think it is difficult to get something that works well.
