Receive network error message when I get a match just after I am about to get into battle from the ship selection page.

Here are my logs.

I hope this information and data help you find the bug that is keeping me from further testing this game. Thanks for looking into this for all of us.

Note: This is for the current build: 1.1.4.70396 (Linux) (May 21 2015)

Yes, I did close Steam and reopen the client and download the patch for this game, as per your request.

Let me know if you need any additional information for my computer. It worked fine on the previous patch and there is nothing wrong with my network connection, works fine in other games and applications without incident.

Same here since the last two month or so. Seems to get worse. It is not the internet connection (which is stable for all other services). The connection loss always occurs during triangulation. The worst thing is that one is unable to reconnect. leaving all ships blocked until the battle is over.

Is this issue repeat now?

if you ment “repaired” -> no

4th game today:

[game.log](< base_url >/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=9326)

[game.net.log](< base_url >/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=9327)

today it happened again (4 times in a row… / sitting here for an hour and try to play a game …)

It seems to happen when the server queue is full or when the network on your end is really busy, capacity problem, it looks like.

It seems to happen when the server queue is full or when the network on your end is really busy, capacity problem, it looks like.

its definetily not my side of the connection. I have a 50Mbit VDSL connection and i never saw a single connection loss in other games. Also the round trip time (ping) to many servers is quite ok (about 20-30 ms). As this error occur quite freuquenty (every sencond game or so), there is a pretty low chance of having just bad luck here. It’s a  systematic problem in this game.

the problem is still there in the latest version, although the freuqency in which the error occurs is getting better its now about 1 of 4 games instead of 2 of 4 …

Please, write steps to reproduction bug

* log into the game

* click launch

* the bug occurs during triangulation

some more log files from today (last game ended in the bug again)

this error is still valid:

  • description: connection loss during triangulation. “Received Network error. Unable to connect.” Reconnecting to the game always fails. Ships are in battle until the game ends.

  • frequency: it occurs quite frequently to me. Some days I receive this error on every try. Some other days every third game or so.

  • triggers of the bug: The bug seems to be more frequent in the afternoon, especially when many people are online. The error was gone after you had replaced the match making, such that you could join a game after it has started. Then a few updates later the problem re-occurred.The last weeks it was so bad, that I could not even play a single game in a week or so. Last three days or so I was able to play a few games again, but is still happens.

  • time of last occurrence: 21:49:16.465,

oh … and a screen shot:

post-254253-0-64264600-1453499610.png

thanks for your diag info.
unfortunately, we couldnt see any server-side troubles with the server and the map from wich you was disconnected. There were another players on the same server and map with no problems.

If networking is persistantly OK (as per your traceroute info) then, there is something happens on your side. Maybe CPU or GPU overload for example…

just observed this again…

-> networks seems allright here: I have never seen any issue regarding any other service (e.g. I am running openvpn, which is permanently connected to another openvpn server / I regularily stream music from my homeserver here, while at work / I have not seen any

connection issue in other games). The curious thing is also, that i am never able to reconnect to such a game. This does not indicate a temporary connection issue and when i am running the traceroute between two connection attempts it is going through.

-> CPU/GPU overload: I do not think so. the system has a high end only one year old CPU and GPU. no other services non-default are running albeit typical background services. I can see my CPU at around 5% load in the game lobby.

Suggestion/Workaround: The failed connection is not the worst thing, if it is only happening every 5 connection attempts or so. The blocked ships are really annoying. Therefore, maybe you can change the anti-quit rule in that way, that the ships are only blocked if the game has been entered at least once.

Furthermore, i am willing to use patched or verbose logging versions of the game if it helps you to debug the error.

I’ll just describe you in more detail your case:
//

// From your side (out from your game.log)

//

21:49:16.465         | client: connected to 5.153.37.199|35030, MTU 1492. setting up session…

/// You game client found server and started session intit phase…

21:49:16.530         | client. send version check message (38 bytes)

21:49:31.324  WARNING| client: couldn’t connect by timeout (frameTimeReal = 0.015001)
 than something happened and init phase was terminated.

This can be caused (among other issues) by networking problems wich are commonly can be:

  1. either packet losses\hight latencies
    2. misrouting/packet blocking

Lets assume you OK with 1. -You 100% sure your and your ISP and its uplinks network connection is stable. And from the server side i’v checked there were no networking issues also.

Then it could be a possibility of misrouting. Try to exit all VPN clients, disable all additional network interfaces and delete any additional default routes.
