Range indicator for off-screen enemy symbols

In Freespace 2, the off-screen indicators for hostile targets had a nice feature: if they enemy was close, it would be a red triangle. If the enemy was further away, the triangle would split into two halves and the distance between the two halves would symbolize the distance of the hostile ship (the more apart, the further the enemy was).

I would love to see this in Star Conflict in some form or another because it’s very useful to know which of the off-screen symbols is that of the closest enemy.

See the attachment for a graphic representation of this feature.

I follow your thoughts but i fear that if off-screen range indicators would be made like that, then it would be awfully confusing with a bunch of split symbols on the screen…

i think this gonna useful… but only for target you lock on…

i dont think nessesary for non locked one…

I concur.

Solution: Trim the number of off-screen pointers down to current target, beacons and anything that has you locked. There’s a seperate radar readout to show everything else (which, as I said in another thread, could stand to be moved closer to the center of the screen).

At the very least, the Current Target pointer needs to be more obvious. There’s a lot of visual clutter on the peripheral radar right now.

Yea. There are better ways to add some range indictor. This is just how it was done in Freespace 2.
