Hello! Matchmaking system in SecCon mode is working by finding the most equal opponents among others, who are playing at the moment. But if there’s no exact match at the moment, it’s trying to find opposing team closest to you by ranks. Ships of lower ranks are getting bonuses against higher ones to match damage and HP.

We can have matches with only one player per team with 3 bots each, so why is the matchmaker throwing 8 people with rank 7-9 ships onto one team against a team of 8 people with mostly rank 10-12 ships? Having one match with 2 teams of 4 people rank 7-9 and another match with 2 teams of 4 people rank 10-12 is a whole lot more balanced.

if it throwed 8 people of R9 vs 8 people of R12 it means that both groups were full wings. Lower tier get buffs. Regarding modules - both teams have 9 slots and 4 actives. Difference in DPS between top guns of T4 and T3 is ~5% which is more than compensated with bonuses. Resists are compensated too, giving T3 a little advantage due to longer cooldowns of some of their actives. The only thing that is not compensated are destroyers.

It’s not quite that simple in practice as it looks on paper. There’s also the difference in available modules, especially with the newer ones that have been introduced with the fleet revamp. Higher ranked ships have access to a wider variety of modules, especially if it’s a prem ship since they have acess to every new module within their range. You’re probably right, the rank 12s were probably in groups, but that makes the matchmaking even more suspect. If you’re forming a group of fleet mates for conquest then you’ve probably been doing it for a long time and know exactly what to do to quickly win a match. Why is the matchmaker putting groups of veterans on a team against a bunch of randoms instead of one group of vets on each team so it has the possibility of being a fun match instead of one team camping the other at the spawn point?

I could understand that maybe happening once, but 3 times in a row?

It is that simple actually. But something else caught my attention - are you saying that fully random group of 8 people flying R9s were put against full wing of R12s 3 times in a row?

Nope, it’s no true,  all time  in my corp they were often 2 or 3 only and  rarely 5 max to go in dreads in t3, so, they join other random person in t3  till they were  8 but they still fighted r 10 - 12

that i said, yes : )

didn’t see your  sentence before

but it’s really same if we goes with r 10 - 12 ships in random and same conditions… we meet r 13 - 15  teams.

Yes, this is exactly what I’m saying. I did 3 Dreadnought battles and all 3 times I was in a team of Rank 7-9 randoms against a team with 2 groups of rank 10-12 people, while all 3 matches I was with a different bunch of randoms. There were a couple of the randoms that were the same, but not in all 3 matches so I’m fairly certain there were no groups on the random team unless it was just a group of 2. I’ve been on a team of randoms against a group of vets before, but never multiple times in a row.

If I ever bother doing another conquest match and this happens again I’ll screenshot it.

please do and report it - I’m not sure if that’s how it should work.

Someone gone and dun _______ up the PvP matchmaking system with the latest release!

I was trying to grind tier 4 ships up and I’m getting put into battles with destroyers, Centaurs, and other things more than twice my ship level. Three times in a row now less.

WTF.

this is due to change in ranking effecting the matchmaking routines (MM) : ship ranks (1-15) do not influence alone, we have a pilot-level rating system started.

Basically we got 3 tiers left: easy (1-4) medium (5-11) hard (12-15) if I remember correctly (in the SC v1.5.12 patch notes)

So, what you experienced is intended

Lower rank spaceships get bonusses though, to make good for the rank differences, and have the respective crew implants working for them /so: you fly r10 in battle with r12s max, you get bonusses from your implants 1-12).

Try it out a bit: it works and gives you some leeway to fly your beloved ships irregardly of ranks and even benefit from some bonusses and adapt your underranked ships accordingly!
