Need I remind everybody that most SC games are a mad dash for beacon captures in the first 5 minutes? What are you going to do in your 300 m/s max speed command or gunship when an interceptor is trying to take your beacon clear on the other side of the map? Derp Derp and blame your teammates for being horribad? Or maybe you could pay attention just once to your team composition before the match starts. At no point ever should you run without an interceptor in your squad unless the other team does as well or the enemy only has T3 ships.
Interceptors still have a role in T5 and are notoriously hard to take down 1v1 depending on the pilot. Even if you’re in a 4 man squad, if you’re the only person flying an inty it’s pretty much left to you to defend your beacons against multiple interceptors in some circumstances until your team can get in range. Cov Ops is actually the best for this job as you can plasma web one person and shoot at the other effectively stopping both of them from capping. Recon is faster to react but will have issues stopping multiple ships unless you’re able to kill one right away.

Did you reply to awrong thread or something? no one is debating viability of interceptors in SecCon here, it is just One version VS another

If you have only one spot in a squad setup for an interceptor, in current meta game it has to be Empire recon, period, there is no other interceptor in a game that brings amount of mobility, tankinis, offencive tools, versatility and control in the game in the single ship. CovOps are good but they are specialized ship, if enemy flanking your Beacon it will still take 10-20 seconds for a cov op to get to that beacon, might be too late already, and federation CovOp is not tanky enough nor does it have tools to take on multiple not terrible enemies alone. Plus federation CovOp is getting almost into EB from a single 3x charged Gauss Lion mk2.
Imperial ecm can act as a good COUNTER to other ceptors.
ECM is a squad disabler, it is most efficient while being in a formation with a team and it will take forever to get to the beacon in order to defend it from capture
Hitting a gyrating Fed Cov Ops at full speed with a Gauss is easier said than done…not only that but the Gauss fires 4 bullets at once…odds are only 1 or 2 of those will hit if he’s moving across your field of view. If he’s moving away or towards you though…gg.

What makes you think it was the wrong thread though? According to your opinion Fed Cov Ops aren’t worth the effort in T5. I still think Fed Cov Ops is very viable. Think outside the frigball box. Mobility without having to rely on microwarp to get you around the map and any good inty pilot uses natural cover to mask their approach to avoid being shot with long range weapons.
Plus this is also why you don’t have every single person on your team on one side of the map…if you notice the other team is “missing” a player…be proactive not reactive and be there waiting for him.

Lion mk2 has extended range on its modules, it is simple - lock on target -> start charging Gauss -> at 3x charge activate painter+engine inhibitor+release gauss+shoot missile, CovOp will have no time to react with surv modules to activate immune to slow, adaptives will be off = one shot into EB and missile come in right after eb is off = gg. and Gauss has no spread, i have yet to see where at least one projectile miss a target (especially if target still has Shield up)

well you started your reply with all about fighters for w/e reason, no one here was talking about gunships/commands at all.

You don’t have that much more speed on Federation CovOp than on Jarl that on top of that has microwarp. With Gauss and Assaults buff and Healing Nerf , Fed Covs get the shortest side of the stick. But even before patch, the way recons are, they can bring ten folds the pain and annoyance to enemy team than a covop.
I personally love Fed interceptors, mobility and adrenaline rush of dogfighting at 500-600 speeds is what keeps me in this game, but from Min Max point of view within me, as a CovOp Wakizashi R most of the time > Falcons; Jarl/viking as go to Interceptor. It is kinda like Minotaur and Naga are go to engineers, while T-rex is a niche engineer

Yeah but you really need to have Jarl at synergy lvl 8 for it to be that fast. Also with the maps we’ve been getting recently, until you’re within about 3-4k of the beacon you don’t have a clear shot to shoot said interceptor because of asteroids in the way.
Don’t get me wrong… 4/5 players flying these ships will get destroyed quickly…it’s that 5th pilot though that shreds your entire back line support enabling the less skilled players on the other team to gang up on your close range fighters while the frigates are busy with the inty. Strategy man strategy. I’ve seen it happen entirely too many times

Well mostly I’ve been thinking about using my CO’s as beacon defense ships. At this job they’re way better than any Recon. Basically you sit at your middle beacon or at least at a halfway point between all your beacons and wait for an attack…or even better if you’re able to spot their ships with the naked eye from outside sensor range and start moving in that direction to cut them off. 6k is nothing for a ship that quick. Obviously in smaller games you stay closer to your team.
The beacon rushers are an epidemic currently in SC that must be countered. Also since most of the ships you’ll be fighting are other Cov Ops and Recons, bringing a Wazakashi R is a bad idea…one shield drain from a Recon and you’re done for.

Well if you don’t have maxed out Jarl, then you don’t have maxed out Falcon, and imho half synergised falcon is even worse :))
But in the current game balance state, FedCov is pretty much the worst T5 interceptor for Sec Con for “competitive” play.
I am not talking about beacon rush idiots, I am arguing about games where you have to do your best or you get steamrolled. And when you go into SecCon you have to expect every single game to be like that.
lol that’s the only inty weapon I use in T5. Holding off 3 interceptors while the rest of your team is enroute from 10 km away and you still keep them from capping the beacon…priceless

Oh my God…looks like i’m in the wrong ship branch then…
Well too late…But from your statment m8 i assume Falcon M > Grey Falcon coz more damage can at least compensate less survivability (get rid of your enemy asap)…or u mean Grey Falcon > Falcon M coz more mobility compensate less survivability…?
Anyway next poll will be about what’s better among shrapnel and pulse lol

Dont jump the ship yet, they just as might nerf Gauss, it wont add any versatility to Covops bu sure makes them more viable, especialy federations.
My own rule of thumb for Federation interceptors and (Jericho CovOps) is 3 Engines or GTFO
