Project 'Saros Cycle'

The UMC’s Project ‘Saros Cycle’ contingency is a top-secret program designed to create countermeasures against the rising power of ‘Ellydium’ corporation’s monopoly on synthetic Crystallid technology. The recent influx of synthetic Crystallid ships coincides with the most human lives lost since The First War for the Bartle Sector, and despite the Federation breaking off the treaty with Jericho, officials from both factions and the Empire lent resources to UMC to proceed with Project ‘Saros Cycle.’ UMC also got resources from other areas of influence such as Pirate and Cartel groups who want to see Ellydium’s sector wide rule crushed. These very questionable groups were a liability to UMC from the start, and have recently proven why working with them was a dangerous gamble. One of these groups has stolen the technology they had access to, and are transporting it to a secure location.

 

New missions from the Broker starting August 21st. Four missions, each needing to be completed before the next becomes available. The first two are only available from August 21st to August 24th, the latter two are available until September 1st.

Umbra Beam:

The ‘Umbra’ Beam is a prototype artillery weapon developed by UMC, as part of the Project ‘Saros Cycle’ contingency, with input from the Empire, Federation, and Jericho’s top scientists. It features a shorter range semi-automatic primary fire mode, and a long range fully automatic alternate fire mode that can fire up to nine shots before switching back to primary fire mode. Deals additional damage to ‘Ellydium’ ships, but no additional damage to Crystallid and Infected ships.

 

‘Umbra’ Beam 11

Does not fit Alien ships.

A unique long range top-secret prototype beam weapon developed by UMC to be used against ‘Ellydium’ Corporation in the event that they become too powerful. Draws energy from the capacitor to fire, capable of storing a volley of nine charged shots. Deals an additional 50% damage to Alien ships.

When the fire button is pressed, an un-charged beam is projected that travels up to 3500 meters from the muzzle of the cannon. Using the weapon with un-charged beams has a fire rate of 90 rounds/min. When the fire button is held down, the weapon draws 300 en/s. to generate charged shots. Up to nine charged shots can be accumulated at a time, releasing the fire button before nine charged shots are generated will store as many shots as were completed during the time the fire button was held down. No heat is generated while charging shots, but the weapon cannot cool down. After a charged shot is generated it will not be fired until the next input from the fire button, at that time the weapon has a fire rate of 120 rounds/min and has a Full overheating time of 4.5 seconds, cooldown time is increased to 7 seconds.

Full length of the beam is generated when firing; the trail fades from the back to the front at an exponential rate. Weapons fire one at a time similar to a Coil Mortar or Eclipse Launcher.

this weapon looks cool, what if during the mission you would collect some sort of substance that causes crystallid organisms to decay, and then bought certain weapons and modules with the substance, dealing bonus damage to aliens

In general good idea to get good weapons against elly ship line ![:good:](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/good.gif “:good:”)

But: A beam weapon? Don’t need another atm. You would require 3 types then: inty/fighter/frig anyway - right?

How about new ammo for beam/kinetic/em weapons?

 

P.S.: as for your [related poll](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/34515-project-saros-cycle-poll/) would you mind to re-phrase the last point: “a smack in the face with a chair”? How about: “a shot across the bows”? or the like? Don’t refer to human physicality if u could use abstrct things, esp. in relation to imagined/spoken out violence. As a professional I know what a chair in the face could do horrible things with long and lasting sufferings and even death… (not like in the hollywood movies these days where heros “magically” don’t die nor get injured if they go through absurd forms of very hard violence)

Take a look at the updated post, the missions have been described. I like your idea, and think it would work nicely, but there isn’t much time before 8/21/17 if the devs do implement this.

I chose another beam weapon because there’s already the Phaser, Positron Cannon, and Gauss Cannon for EM and Kinetic, but we lack any sort of thermal weapons with a charging or alt fire feature. As far as the last option in the poll, I’ll change it once I inevitably stop finding it quite as humorous.
