Profanity Filter a Useless Option?

Not making a rage thread from a ban or anything since I just got a warning, but I just want to clear something up. I was warned when I threw a curse word off hand describing flying Federation ships. It wasn’t anything insulting and wasn’t jammed in with an alt-code to bypass the filter or anything. Only rule that I can come up with regarding this is:

“the players can prevent the display of obscene words in chat with the help of a profanity filter included in the game settings. But the presence of such a filter in the game is not an excuse for writing obscene words in chat channels.”

Which came off to me as just there so players feel it’s not a free pass to spout a hate speech or anything. So do I zip my lips of any words that make ears sad regardless of context or severity or are some moderators just overzealous?

-not a mod or anything, but my view on it is this-

Since this game is not 18+ cursing is usually seen as something bad   And thus it is a warnable/mutable offense if done excessively.(Though depending on the mod you encounter, it may be excessive very soon or very late.

Hello

as FunkyBacon already mentioned this game also got underaged players and swearing in public is not nice.

Please try to keep calm and kill some Jericho ships instead:)

Always forget about the children, and being used to other games doesn’t help. Thanks for clarification.

EVE online? xD Where basicly everything is allowed? xD

If you were to walk into your local council hall or other public place of gathering and swear like a boat-worker, how would the people around you react?

If they were to complain about your swearing, would you react by saying they can put on some music, cover their ears, distance themselves from you or simply not listen to you in another manner?

For me the most obvious solution is for people to behave as if they were guests in the room and learn how to act appropriately in public. Simple rule of thumb - would whatever you were going to say make your grandmother want to slap you around the ears? Yes? Then don’t say it.

I don’t have the self-dicipline for that… Not always anyway…

Once I’ve had a bunch of bad teams my mood starts getting bad and I kind of start swearing at them for not doing their job.

This is from the fun things to do thread.

I did this the other day, pushed it from our spawn with a frigate all the way to the giant rock barrier in front of the enemy spawn. so many empire snipers… they kept shooting the rock instead of me, i was laughing so hard by the time i was done, I didnt even care that we lost… I was a healer frig and still came in like 3rd just from assists

  1. Make obscure sexual references when your Hydra 2 or any other… well “Hot dog” looking ship goes through the warp gates

You gotta be careful what you say on the internet.

That’s when a GM would mute you, though - which is kind of the point.

Unlike some people, from my experience at least you simply go “yeah ok, fair enough”, and move on.

While swearing in chat is a bad thing due to minors, the pilot comm’s have, usually, voiced swearing at the beginning of battle.

You have the ability to turn it off, but many minors will likely not be able to find the tab without asking.

Perhaps we can have two-three options? for instance, if you’ve just started the game, it will be using the “mild comm’s” at the

start, but you can switch it back to the original if you wish.

and, of course, you can still turn them off all together.

Main point being, what’s the use of muting those that write it when the game itself speaks it 24/7?

Also, I would like to suggest that the ships stats be shown in Full automatically instead of you having to select it.

On a side note, my favorite pilot comm is the guy with the deep voice.

I actually find the swearing from the in-game voice fairly lame and irritating. If you’re going to trash talk the enemy, at least be creative. I agree that this is contradictory to the game rules as well - and as such should be replaced with something more engaging.
