Player loss...?

Has anyone noticed the drop in players as of late,i know i have…For example,i just logged in as i write this post,It is 9:32 am (eastern time zone).Now normally there would be about 1600-1800 players on now.ATM there are 1220.What is or has gone wrong with this game,the player base was growing at a great rate,and now is on the decline…Anyone have any idea as to why…?

Just the usual stuff. Casuals find another game, and some hardcore players are on a break. No exposition or advertisement means less people know about this game and join us.

I have met some new guys in the chat who were amazed that this game was there all the time and they didn’t know.

But also, I remember the great christmas events when we reached over 3000 players online, and the servers were like “OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!” And everybody got epic lag.

I think the biggest thing the=at hurt was the loss of the loot and synergy rewards for the custom rooms,I understand,or have been told,Mind you this is all scuttlebutt (rumor) mind you,The reason they did that was cause some corps were going into T5 and self destructing for the loot drops,miss use of a game mechanics.Now if this is the case,kinda makes sense,but they are losing alot of players that way.My corp GoD(gates of darkness) always had a custom open,and it was great,we had corp like jung c,wolf pack and nasa to mane a few swing in all the time,hop on the teamspeak and kick the crap out of each other all on mixxed teams,and had a blast,it was a good way for corps to inter act with each other,then when we wanted to go at it hard core,we went unregulated and corp on corp,GREAT FUN…And another thing,How you going to have a group based game,with up to 16 player on each side and we only have sqauds of 4…WTF!!!..Oh and now we got the bots back,GREAT…NOT!!!..So how you going to play a good strategic game of combat recon with a bot running a muck and getting killed and you lose because of the bot.Or how about we have 10 players on each side,and bots are still thrown in…WHY?

And yes that was a bit of a rant,but i love this game,and things are not looking well,i hope they pull of this open world mode…

I played 2 years of hardcore StarBattle, where you mainly played InHouses all day over StarCraft Arcade lobbies, so I did believe in custom games having more potential, than they were actually used for.

The custom matches were around quite some time almost unused, and indeed they were just taking off after Xmas, until that abuse (which I myself only know by rumors, but you just gave me a good hint what it was) was prohibited by canceling all rewards.

Many of the players I play with had great fun there, because having two equal teams meant no waiting times, and ongoing pew pew for hours. At least I can remember one night where I had to face my closest wingman in every match amongst the quite numerous IGodI players, which was thrilling.

I already stated in another thread, that I actually would have prefered a more chirurgical approach, by making this sort of “farming” impossible; there are for sure several ways to ensure this, like minimal playing times for rewards in custom games, etc. even less rewards in general. However we would have lost a small percentage of players anyway, since somebody who spends hours of suiciding to get into higher tiers, most likely will not go back to play again anyway.

While I do not think, that this is the sole cause, maybe even not the major one (I also think it is pretty normal, that playernumbers fluctuate a bit, it is spring after all in the northern hemisphere), it definitely had an impact;

Btw. XofJSA, you could use the magic of the enter button to create at least some paragraphs, makes it easier to read :wink:

I am moving this discussion, since it doesn’t really belong in the suggestion section.

 sry there,due to lack of coffee in the morning…

I blame spring.

I’ve gone down to only playing a few games per week because of life.  I did take advantage of the DLC sale so I’m not planning on quitting.
